Inspired by the quote in the description (from the amazing web-comic a softer world) and the song 'Let Go' by Frou Frou (Imogen Heap).

He stares at the folded blazer on the table in front of him.

It is folded into a perfect navy square, the striped tie a dividing line straight through the center. He feels as if he touched it, the corners of the folded blazer would cut him.

The Council Member sitting across from him steeples his fingers and watches him through cold, slanted eyes.

He can feel his breathing speed up as he stares at the square of the uniform.

The Council Member slides the uniform closer to his side of the table.

"We will wait for your decision. You have one week to make your choice."

The Council Member stands and vanishes into the darkness that surrounded the pool of light on the table, leaving the small dark figure to weight his options.

At the end of the week he will be welcomed with open arms and wide smiles into the select group. He will put on the uniform and the wide smile; will survive the pain that fills every fiber of his being. When he wakes up again, he will feel relief.

He is safe here, he is not alone anymore. He is content to stay safe within his boundaries.

It will be another year and a half before the same offer of safety and solidarity will be made to another boy the same age as him.

He will smile as coldly and charmingly as the Council Member that offered him the choice.

The other boy will bite his lip and stare at the uniform, just as he did. He will think that this new boy is beautiful and intriguing.

He will realize, after the boy leaves to decide, that he doesn't want to boy to make the same decision as he did.

He will open his eyes and see the cage that he lives in, and realize that he doesn't want the same fate for the beautiful boy. There is still something free and pure in his eyes. He does not deserve to be caged, to wear the iron smile and chaffing uniform over his pale skin.

Blaine Anderson will turn his head into his pillow and cry, for the first time in years, as silently as he can; because he will know the boys choice.

And he will not know if he is crying for himself or the other boy.

A/N; Thanks for reading! I'm thinking about putting up a couple other chapter for the different choices that 'the new kid' could make.

Please let me know what you thought!
