Chapter 1: Fate's Changes

It was a dark night. Darker than all other nights, though the full moon still shone. The light that the moon gave shone on a house in the village Goderic's Hollow. The house looked like the other houses in the neighborhood, nothing special at first glance. But apparently two figures in the dark were very interested in the family who lived in it. One of them opened the fence, and together they walked into the garden to the house where the lights still burned. When they were at the front door of the building, the second man quickly and soundlessly pulled an object out of his pocket and whispered something softly. The door opened with a bang. They walked inside and for a moment, they bathed in the bright light. The small man who had opened the fence looked rat-like and dirty, with tufts white hair on his head. His watery eyes glanced, frightened, at the other's black robes. That man was serpentine but handsome, with dark hair, his face as blank as a vampire. And his eyes, that studied the hall, were red, like blood.

"Pettigrew," the tall man said to the Peter Pettigrew. Pettigrew was shaking and waited for the command of his master Lord Voldemort. "Take care of James Potter," Lord Voldemort said softly. He went slowly upstairs, leaving Pettigrew behind in his wake. Pettigrew walked to a young man in his thirties. The man, James Potter, had scruffy black hair and brown eyes that were darting about, as he looked for his wand. He seemed shocked and panicked, and the fact his hair stuck up so much it looks like it was electricuted added to this.

James felt so stupid that he wasn't on guard, but there was no time to be furious at himself. The most important thing was to find his wand and to save his family. He heard footsteps and turned round. A wave of relief went through him when he saw that it was his old friend Peter who had come into the room.

"Phew, it's you, Peter. Is this yet another emergency exercise? That's the third time this month, but I still failed," he laughed.

James stopped when he saw that Peter didn't laugh. Peter pulled his wand from his pocket and pointed it slowly at James.

"Hey, mate, what ar-"

Before James could finish his sentence, Peter had already shot a purple spell to him. The spell hit him in the chest and he slumped to his knees.

"Sorry, James," Peter whispered gently to James, who passed out and lay motionless on the floor.

While the little guy offered his apologies over and over again to James Potter, Lord Voldemort had already arrived in the baby room, his wand pointed at the red-haired woman, who tried to sheild her baby with her own body.

"Get out of my way, Mudblood," snarled the man, his patience running out.

Lily Potter shook her head. "Take my life but... save my child please," she begged.

"Go," he said, giving her one last chance. Lily didn't obey him. Voldemort was tired of it and a non-verbal spell that came from his wand hit Lily. She fell to the ground.

Voldemort's attention focused on the baby that lay in his cot. He walked carefully to the baby, wand in his hand, watching him. He was still sleeping with a blanket pulled over him, just the face, eyes shut, poking out. Voldemort wondered briefly if this child really was going to be his downfall... He now stood a metre away from the baby. Detecting the magic of the baby, Voldemort frowned.

It was too familiar. Voldemort had felt this before, but couldn't remember where. He sighed. It couldn't be that he had felt this before. This was the first time he saw the baby personnally and the boy was only 1. He would certainly still remember what happened a year ago. He focused all his attention on the boy again, determined to kill him.

"Avada Kedavra," he shouted.

The green spell shot forward to fulfil it's purpose.

All of a sudden the door opened, and James Potter stood in the doorway. He didn't hesitate and ran as fast as he possibly could towards his son, Harry. A part of the green beam hit him. James flew through the wall and fell two floors down. An arm twisted above his head, and he was as still as his wife, lying at Voldemort's feet. The remainder of the jet broke down in two and hit Lord Voldemort and the baby, despite James' pointless sacrifice to save him. The baby opened his green Avada Kedevra eyes and wept before the jet hit him. And then he disappeared into nothing.

Lord Voldemort got off better, and fell through the wall to the other room.

Voldemort was too shocked to move. He had seen the baby. He seemed too much like ... Harrison ... with his green eyes and his black hair. He could not be. Harrison... Harrison was dead. Nothing was heard from him for decades. Above all, he would have been about the same age as he. Lost in his own thoughts, he barely heard heavy steps and muffled sobs, a few minutes later. The Order of the Phoenix, he thought, shaking himself back to reality. He stood up quickly and disappeared just in time, as the door opened.

"My Lord," Voldemort heard someone say. He blinked and looked around. He was back in his house, Riddle Manor. A blond man, his hair so blond that it just seemed white, bowed to him.

"Lucius," he said curtly.

"If I may ask, what happened?" Lucius Malfoy stared at his Lord Voldemort's robes. They were dirty, torn, and covered in blood stains.

Voldemort followed his gaze and noticed only now that he looked terrible. Not wanting to waste his time on Lucius' stupid questions, he asked curtly where Pettigrew was instead, but at that moment the dark lord saw Peter was in the corner, shivering.

"Pettigrew, were your orders not to deal with James Potter?" he said in a cold voice.

The rat's watery eyes blinked as if he was trying not to cry.

"S- So- Sorry, my Lord. I did- didn't know James Potter was this str- strong. He surprised me when I turned my back to him and knocked me out. I apparated ju- just in time. S- Sorr- Sorry my Lo- Lord." He kneeled and kissed the hem of Voldemort's robes, while Voldemort looked disgusted at him. As much as Voldemort wanted to crucio the filthy rat, he had to leave that thought aside. There were other things that caught his interest and he could in fact torture the rat anytime. With that thought he dismissed both of them. Lucius left elegantly the room while Pettigrew sniffled happily that he wasn't tortured. Yet.

When the door closed behind Voldemort, he went to his green- the colour of Slytherin- throne and sat down. He put his hand against his forehead and closed his eyes, trying to think about the events that had just happened. Many occurences that had happened were like riddles, riddles he couldn't solve at all. Voldemort sighed and looked through the large window at the moon. He smiled a sad smile and fell slowly asleep, while muttering a few words," Goodnight, Harrison..."

A young girl gently picked up a baby from the snow-covered streets. It was winter and a cold one this year, 1927. Almost everything was covered in that white cold solid snow. The girl who wore a pink mantle walked through the streets, holding the baby in her arms. Occasionally, she would glance in windows where families sat around trees singing songs. It was Christmas Eve, and houses and trees everywhere were decorated and multi-coloured lights shone brightly. The girl smiled sadly and looked into the baby's face.

"It will be a lonely Christmas for me, but not for you, huh?"

She pulled the baby closer to herself and walked faster to a big building, with 'Wool's Orpanage' stampd across the front. The girl went to the big wooden front doors, and knocked confidently on the door. There was a short silence, then the sound of two pairs of feet hurrying down stairs, before the doors opened, revealing two tired looking women, each wearing a santa hat. The woman on the left side put a curl behind her ear and watched the girl in the dark.

"Hello there. This is Wool's Orphanage. I'm Mary Sellins and the one next to me is Mrs. Cole. What can we do for you?" she said dully.

The girl smiled mischievously. "I want to leave this child with you. His parents are dead and he's one right now. His name... I dunno, I don't think it's important. Please take care of him. He's important and special and not only to me." She laughed. "Give him all your love please. This child is destined to be someone great and powerful, just like the power inside him."

The two women raised their brows, both thinking the same- she's odd. When Mary saw the girl's gesture to hand the baby over, Mary took the baby in her arms, and caressed his black hair. At that same moment the boy opened his emerald green eyes and looked at Mary. He began to smile and his arms were held in her direction as if he wanted to grab her.

"Aw, he's cute. Seems like he likes you, Mary. Are you family?" Mrs. Cole said, looking up.

The girl shook her head. Her hood fell of when she moved her head. Mrs. Cole could clearly she her now. She was around 13 and had beautiful dark hair. Her multi-coloured eyes stared intensely at her. Mrs. Cole could see hurt, despair and sadness in her eyes, but also happiness and hope. All at once.

"He's just important friend of mine, though I never think friends are 'just'. But he is important to me, anyhow," she said softly. She turned around, muttered her gratitude and wished them a merry Christmas. Then the figure walked away.

"Wait!", Mary shouted." The girl now entirely covered in shadows stopped, waiting for her to say something. "You. You didn't tell us your name."

"You can just call me Fate." And with that the girl was suddenly gone.

Mrs. Cole scratched her head. "That was strange..."

Mary nodded and she tried to lull the baby who was now crying to still. "He's cute, don't you think?", Mary smiled. Mrs. Cole agreed with her.

"How should we name him?" Mrs. Cole asked.

"Harrison, sounds nice. Like he's our son. And Collins as last name.", Mary smiled gently.

"Collins?", Mrs. Cole said questionly. Mary nodded.

"It's a part of our last names and then put together." Mrs. Cole laughed heartily.

"Clever." Her face then turned into a serious one. "I pity Harrison. He has to share a room with Tom Riddle. All other rooms are used."

"Well," Mary began. "Maybe Harrison can change him?"

"If he can survive, that is." Mrs. Cole muttered, under her breath. Mary slapped Mrs. Cole lightly.

"Don't talk about bad things, he will survive for sure."

Mrs. Cole couldn't say anything out of shock and just nodded. "Let's go inside. It's beginning to get cold." Mary walked inside first with the now sleeping baby and Mrs. Cole followed her, closing the door behind her. While the matron of the orphanage walked to her own room, Mary went directly to Tom Riddle's room, room number 7. The whole way to the room she cooed the little baby. When she arrived at room no.7 she opened the wooden door and stepped in.

"Well, Harrison. This is your new room and your new roommate." She showed him the room first before she walked to the cot in the middle of the small room and placed Harrison next to the little baby, Tom. They looked at each other calculatingly. Emerald green met dark brown eyes.

"Harrison, this is Tom. Tom this is Harrison. Be nice to each other." Mary put a blanket on the two babies, turned the light off and went out of the room. But not before saying "Goodnight."

The babies kept on staring at each other, before Tom reached out and put his chubby little hand on Harrison's thin chest. Harrison moved closer to the other and they both drifted off to sleep.

Outside a few metres away from the orphanage a figure watched them on the roof of a small house. The figure smiled mischievously and began to sing. "I wish you a merry christmas, I wish you a merry christmas, I wish you a merry christmas and a happy new year!" The clouds which had been hanging in front of the moon drifted away and revealed a beautiful full moon. The light of the moon shone brightly at the whole area. The dark figure was revealed to be the same girl as who had found and given the baby away. Tears were in her eyes, but she didn't look sad.

" Hey! What are you doing there?" a man on the ground shouted when he saw the girl. She rubbed her tears away and placed a big smile on her face.

"Enjoying christmas, Mr. Wizard.", she shouted joyfully back.

"Don't shout that, you don't want trouble with the ministry," he hushed her.

"Maybe... Hey. Let me give the magical world a gift." The man looked confused at her. The girl who called herself Fate stared at the moon.

" A path already by Fate changed,
a plan already by Death arranged.

A kingdom only ruled by the now young dark lord,
his friend or rather lover by his side as his sword.

The master of death shall bring forth destruction,
and the only solution for him is abduction.

Together with Lady Fate and Lady Magic,
by sacrificing souls.
Destiny won't become tragic,
and we reach our goals.
of peace..."

The man on the ground stared at the girl with an open mouth. Fate smiled. She kept her head awry and she watched the man with an insane look on her face.

"Shockingly, huh? Please remember this prophecy or humanity is doomed. Just an extra tip. When the time is right, Fate will appear. Just like she's close to Death, she's also close to the master of death, and a direct link to lady Magic. Please spread..." she said the last words gently. The man blinked ready to ask her more questions, but then she was already gone leaving no trace of her behind. The man scratched his head and looked more confusingly at the moon.

"Huh?"

Hey everyone! It's a long time ago, I wrote something. I'm so sorry. I was quite busy and hadn't got any motivation to write a chapter, so I rewrote a chapter and here it is. It changed quite much, but it's still the same plot. I'm trying to write a new chapter and if that doesn't work I'll just rewrite other chapters. Summer holidays are almost beginning. Just one day to go to school and that's tomorrow! So it means I can write more often. Happy summer holidays everyone! BTW Check out my new story. Maybe I'll make my new story a sequel. It quite fits in the story. But I'm not sure. So if you don't want maybe spoilers, don't read!
