Disclaimer: Unfortunately I do not own either Dangan Ronpa or Naruto, if I did Sakura would have more badass moments and Chapter 3 of SDr2 would of ended VERY differently.
Mikan Tsumiki had always been a shy girl even before her father died in a border skirmish when she was a toddler. However, after his death her mother spiralled downwards, drinking heavily and she took out the brunt of her anger and grief out on Mikan. Mikan eventually started to believe the harsh words that her mother said and she learned to stitch the cuts and bandage the wounds her mother gave her. She hated her and desperately wanted the be away from her abusive mother so she asked to join the academy as soon as she was old enough. Her mother had sneered at her and said that she hoped Mikan died a "fools death" just like her father had and that day she gave Mikan a particularly fierce beating.
Mikan was hopeful that the academy would be the opportunity to escape her mother, if only for a while. Unfortunately the academy was no safe haven for Mikan, the children there noticed how she jumped at every bump and stuttered over her apologies for every little thing and soon the academy became just as bad as home for her. However over time Mikan began to change how she viewed the bullying and abuse, she started to believe that the bullying was better than them completely ignoring her existance and that if they yelled at her, drew on her and beat her up that meant that they accepted her existance and didn't hate her. She still hated to bullying but she would rather be abused than hated and ignored.
By the age of ten Mikan was better than all of her peers at basic first aid and she had even started researching medical ninjutsu rather than simple stitching or bandaging of wounds, she had chakra control that rivaled that of Sakura Haruno and she was decent at ninjutsu. But Mikan could never pass their sensei's tests on taijutsu or weaponry, she was just too clumbsy and she always fell over in the middle of a spar or slipped while throwing a kunai. Sasuke Uchiha had regarded Mikan with slight interest as she his only female classmate other than Hinata Hyuuga who was no obsessed with him. Naruto Uzumaki was not sure what to think of her, she always cried whenever one of his pranks startled her and she couldn't hold a proper conversation with him. However he recognised what it was like to be an outsider so he never targeted his pranks at her and he tried his best to stop her from crying. Sakura Haruno however felt immense pity for Mikan, she knew what it was like to be bullied extremely and so she had always tried to be as nice as she could to her but she was wary of her as a potential rival for Sasuke's love. Ino Yamanaka hated Mikan with a passion and led the mob that cut her hair to make it a mess and beat her up and do her best to make her life hell.
