The leaves rustled and the wind howled, a cold wind brushing across window panes and down chimneys. But one person was not asleep.

Maddy Smith stood staring up at the moon, gazing superior from the night sky. In a few days it would be the full moon, she would finally transform.

"Your meant to be in bed pet"

Emma Smith murmured in silent understanding as she came to stand beside her only daughter, sliding her hand into her cubs.

"Sorry mam" Maddy sighed, lines of worry, agitation and excitement filling her face.

"You still have at least a week, the pull of the moon will continue to grow" Daniel, her father, joined the two females; one Alpha, one would-be Alpha.

He wrapped his arms around their shoulders and kissed the tips of their head as they walked back inside together.

They were Wolfbloods. Not Werewolves or other such nonsense, Wolfblood.

Maddy's PoV

"Have a good day at school!!"

Mam called after me, as I hurried out the door, having overslept.

I began to run, through the trees, as fast as possible. When I say fast I mean faster than Humanly possible. That's one of the great things about being a Wolfblood, heightened senses, super speed, you can even tell when someone is lying just by listening to their heartbeat.

But that also comes with a price. You can't always stop yourself hearing things, you have to be careful to control your wolf, you have to hide.

With a sigh I sprinted up to the hole in the fence outside the school and clambered through, making sure to brush any leaves or dirt from my hair from the run. Then I jogged slowly up to the school, gently beginning to walk as I got closer.

"Hey Mads!"

A grin slid across my face as my best (and only) friends came into view.

Tom, tall and lanky, dark brown eyes to match his skin, full or warmth and boyish mischief.

Then Shannon, average height, red hair with glasses, a typical nerd carrying a book against her chest yet she quickly stuffed it into her bag.

No matter what Jimmy or the Three Kays thought, Shan was great fun and an even greater friend. Even if she didn't know the truth.

Humans cannot know, it's law, Wolfblood law.

"Hey guys!"

I smiled as we fell into step, entering the school together. We hurried straight to class to make sure we weren't late, I do not fancy getting detention any time within the next week or so, just in case.

"Today," Mr Jefferies started, walking into the room as everyone sat down "We have a new student, Rhydian Morris"

My eyes, that were previously playing a silent game with Tom, snapped upwards to the boy in the doorway. His name, his sent, his looks, it was all very familiar.

"Catch me if you can!!"

We danced through the trees, laughing and giggling, avoiding the snatches as hands tried to grab us.

"Hey no fair!"

We laughed as a red head pounced upon another boy, cute with dark hair, both eyes glowing gold. I turned to the blonde stood next to me, grinning from ear to ear, his blue eyes mesmerising.

"Tag your it!"

My eyes lit up, and a smile grew on my face. Kay and Kara sighed, staring dreamily at the now handsome teen with their heads resting upon their hands, supported by their elbows. Katrina shot me a dark look of both disgust and amusement. I knew what she was thinking; he would never like a girl like you.

I quickly ducked my head back down, so nobody else saw my reaction. I could feel his eyes on me, but he may not even remember.

The chair next to me slid back with a scrap against the floor and a bag was dumped next to my foot.

"Hello"

His voice was low, quiet, so nobody else heard and his lips barely moved. I kept my eyes on the table as I replied.

"Hello"

He shifted in his seat next to me.

"It's been awhile Mads"

My breath caught in my throat and my eyes widened, he did remember!!

The bell rang before I could reply, my legs began to move by themselves as I grabbed my bag and disappeared from the classroom. I could feel the glared of the Three K's burning into my back. I darted inside the Dark Room, knowing they would follow, to keep from making a scene.

This was going to be so much fun.
