Her breathing haggard, Raven shot up from her black quilted bed.
'Oh man, don't tell me…'
Her heart racing the speed of her fingers, she quickly disposed of her Elmo pajamas, pulled her violet leotard over her shoulders and pulled her customary blankness onto here face. She was ready for anything.
Shutting her door with the utmost care and cussing when it squeaked, Raven cautiously tiptoed her way down the hallway, ears perked up and listening. Suddenly she froze. A faint rustling was escaping a door to her right. Was it to late? Was Starfire's future cut tragically short? She calmed her self with a long breath.
'Azarath, Metrion, Zinthos.'
She chanted eyes half closed. Raven knew that when she opened them, she would see something terrifying and would probably scar her mind for life. Raising her reluctant lids slowly, she stepped forward into the unknown…
'Ouch!' The unknown was bonyier than Raven had imagined.
'OW!'And she certaintly hadn't been prepared for a talking afterlife.
'Who's there?' She managed to squeak out.
'I see no person named "Who". Where did you see him?'
Raven breathed a sigh of relief. Only one person on planet Earth talked like that, thank goodness.
'Starfire, it's me Raven.'
'Oh, goodevening Raven! May I ask why you were outside my door at ten minutes past the night of mid?
'Sorry about that. I was just a little worried about… well I thought I'd just check the living room for no apparent reason. Yeah.'
Through her now dark adjusted eyes, Raven could see Starfire regarding her suspiciously.
'Friend Raven, I too have decided to check the room of the living. Maybe we search ?'
Raven weighed up her chances of survival with and without Starfire. On one hand, two supernatuarally gifted teens fighting for survival had more chance together than alone. However, Starfire's ability to scream when anything previously unknown happened to her, severly handicapped their chances to remain undiscovered. Raven sighed.
'Ok, come on then..'
They continued their way down to the destination, hearts fluttering with unsure hope.
'Friend Raven?'
Raven wished Starfire would be quiet, she needed to think about their plan of action.
'Yes Star?'
Her companion seemed to be having trouble expresssing whatever she wanted to say.
'Starfire, just say it. It's ok.'
She exhaled softly.
'I just wanted to say that, even though we are different, we are friends, yes?'
Raven nodded solemly.
'And, if we do not survive this,' Starfire struggled for the word, 'ordeal, I will remember you as a great friend.'
As she said these last words, she leaned over and did something unusual.
Raven enjoyed her first true hug.
