Just Homework

AN: In response to five challenges a friend of mine gave to me at school (involving the characters of X-Men: Evolution), I sent the list 'cross e-mail to Jixie, who told me which three to write. (I had to write three at least, posting 'em by Sunday, January 28, 2000.) So, call-out to Jixie! Also, I'll be posting the challenges my friend created just in case someone wants to try and write one. Not that anyone will. *siiiigh*

THE CHALLENGE:
1) Using 350 words to 400 words, write a short fanfic for Evan and Jean. TRY NOT TO WRITE SCOTT/ROGUE.

This story is approximately: 398 words long

"Kurt, quiet down!" Evan hissed, wary of his friend's rambunctious behavior.
Kurt stuck his tongue out, wrinkling his blue-furred nose while the African-American boy muttered darkly under his breath, hastily scrawling something across a sheet of notebook paper.
"Why, oh-why, oh-WHY am I doing this?" Evan asked himself, pausing to stare up at the estate's library ceiling. "Oh, yes," he continued, returning his attention to the notebook paper. "Because our beloved school faculty wants us to write romantic poems in lieu of Valentine's Day! FOR A FLIPPIN' *GRADE*!!"
Kurt rolled his yellow eyes, having already done his required five poems and eager to retreat to the outside world. He'd promised Forge he'd show him the wonders of the new Pizza Hut after he'd finished his homework and listening to Evan mumble, curse, and…curse…wasn't his cup of tea.
Sighing, the German smiled helpfully. "Why don't you write about a girl you like?" he suggested and then he felt his face flush when Evan gave him a dirty, knowing look.
"Easy for you to say. You are waaaaay too obvious," Evan retorted and Kurt's ears shifted color to a light purple.
"Obviiiousssss," Evan sang and Kurt, irritated, teleported away ill-temperedly.
In the relative silence ensuing, he groaned. "A girl I like," he repeated Kurt's words from a mere minute before.
Within three seconds, his pen shot across the paper, poetry flowing with ease from his mind.
"Hey, Evan, what're you doing?"
He froze, shoulders hunched and he threw his arms over the spiral paper as casually as he could. Jean raised an eyebrow at his weak smile.
A ghostly smirk twitched at the corners of her lips and she sauntered over to him, prying gently at his arms.
"What…"
She pulled a little harder.
"Are…"
Tug.
"You hiding?"
His mind whirring, he came up with the perfect answer.
"Just homework."
Not believing him, Jean shook her head and ran a hand through her red hair absently.
He swallowed thickly.
"Well, if you're hiding homework, then it wouldn't hurt to show me, hmm?"
Realizing the trap he'd let himself into, he groaned again, sliding down his chair and resignedly handed her the sheet of poems.
He awaited her reaction with dread.
"I see. Just homework."
With that said, Jean walked away, a slightly invisible spring in her step and a childish smile on her lips.
Evan was too stunned to notice.

End AN: Short and senseless. Hey, waitaminute…WAFF!! All the signs of WAFF are upon this! Short! Pointless! Impossible couple! Guy and girl fall head over heels immediately!…Short!…and, um…Pointless! Yeah! So, go ahead, insult me.

And I've finished writing a long, dark Evan/Jean fic labeled "Everything Is Wonderful" and I'm e-mailin' it to Bandit for beta-reading! (I lost Krissy's new e-mail address, so that's the only reason she hasn't been drafted into beta-reading "E.I.W." for moi. Though she IS responsible for the Evan/Jean coupling. She didn't mean to be responsible, of course. It just kinda…happened. 0.o)
