Written for Elfgreen week, prompt 'Hope.'
He had already told his sisters, and of course asked Laxus and the rest of the Thunder Legion for permission. Today he was gonna ask Evergreen if she'd marry him. It had been three years since he first confessed his feelings and a wave of déjà vu hit him. He remembered how nervous and afraid he'd been that day, how dry his mouth had been, how he'd rambled on and on, and how she'd hit him. Of course she did that all the time so it wasn't a big deal, but it had been extra hard that day, he thought he still had some bruises hidden under his hair.
Her violent attitude was cute to him though, it wasn't incredibly painful with him being as muscled as he was, when he was taken by surprise it hurt more, but it was never as agonizing as she wanted it to be. Every time he foolishly joked about that, she'd take off her glasses and turn him to stone, he'd be returned to flesh and blood a week later in her dorm room, surrounded by other statues and flowers. And then Evergreen would yell at him to get out of her room, and cover herself, even though Elfman had already seen her naked plenty of times.
The thoughts trailed off as he stayed standing, just thinking about her and wishing that he wouldn't be rejected, or accepted like confessing for the first time… And he was thinking about Evergreen and her fan again.
He felt a harsh slap on his shoulder and saw his girlfriend glaring at him, glasses slipping down her nose with her fan clutched in her hand on her hips. She was so much shorter than him it was quite funny, but her glasses were slipping down her nose more and he instantly sank to one knee and looked at the ground. If he was looking at her face then he was sure he'd see the most shocked look in existence.
The box he had in his jacket pocket was pressing into his chest from his leaning forward and he reached in to pull it out. After finally raising his head, and looking at her through very squinted eyes, he held up the box and held open the lid for her to see the diamond ring he'd picked for her. She gasped and he assumed it was safe to open his eyes wider, thankfully she'd pushed her spectacles back into place and some tears threatened to overspill from her eyes. Her hands were over her mouth and her breath was coming quickly, it seemed like she might faint for a moment before she apparently gathered her resolve and flung her arms around him. He would've fallen back if he hadn't been tensed up and ready to be smacked with something.
She kept crying out her 'YESs' happily and kissed him before he could question if she really meant it in happy disbelief. It grew heated quickly and her hands were running all over his body, causing him to groan into her mouth pleasantly. They would have had to move to do something more privately if there hadn't been a cough and a cackle from behind Evergreen.
They broke apart and looked to see Bickslow and his five dolls staring right at them, Evergreen buried her face into his shoulder, embarrassed when her teammate started talking and Elfman picked her up bridal style, running away to face the teasing at a much later time.
