Jack signed. The sweltering heat of the midday sun showed no signs of relenting even as the day stretched into evening. He was hot and bored.

"Daniel, aren't you done yet?" He knew, and didn't care, that he was dangerously close to whining.

Daniel's exasperated voice came from within the ruins. "I told you five minutes ago, Jack, this should only take another two hours."

"More like five hours ago," he groused as he checked his watch.

If Daniel heard the remark, he chose to ignore it.

Jack spent the next two hours contemplating ways he could kill his rock-loving friend, without Carter or Teal'c seeing him, and still have it look like an accident. He still hadn't run out of ideas when the other half of SG-1 returned. Jack was so engrossed in plotting Daniel's demise that he did hear them come up behind him as he muttered, "Could say he touched something while I had my back turned and it caused a rock slide."

"Sorry, sir, but given what the general knows about this location, I don't think he's likely to buy that." Carter held back a laugh as Jack jumped to his feet.

"Carter! Don't you know it's dangerous to sneak up on Special Ops trained Air Force Colonels? Especially very hot and bored Colonels," Jack said, raising his voice towards the end.

"I find the temperature most agreeable on this planet, O'Neill. And perhaps you would not be so bored if you had joined Daniel Jackson in his endeavor."

Jack threw Teal'c a "what are you, nuts?" look followed by a "traitor" glare as Daniel called out.

"He's right, Jack. I tried to tell you that."

He sounded just a little to smug for Jack's liking. Jack chose to ignore that remark as he turned back to Carter. "You get your samples?"

Still trying not to laugh at the disgruntled look on her CO's face, Carter nodded. "Yes, sir," she said as she pointed to her pack, which was now much fuller than it had been when they'd started the mission.

Jack called out to Daniel. "Time's up."

"No way. It hasn't been two hours already," Daniel protested.

"Can and has been. Move." At the mutinous look on Daniel's face, Jack added, "Now."

Daniel reluctantly wrapped up what he was working and packed up his things. Ten minutes later they were heading for home.

As they walked back towards the 'gate, Jack revised his "murder the archeologist" plan to include treacherous Jaffas and not quite grinning Majors.
