"Just how much further is it, Kurt?" Star asked me as he followed behind me.
"Not much further." I replied, "We're almost there, Star."
The two of us padded our way through the crawlspace and to a room that had some broken glass shards in it. Star blinked in confusion, "Broken glass? What's so special about that?"
"Watch." I replied, re-arranging the glass. Instantly, the colors of the northern lights flashed up on the wall and Star's bright blue eyes widened in amazement.
"Neato! Who taught you such a cool trick?" Star asked, putting his paw around me as his tail wagged violently with joy.
"Balto told me about it." I replied, "He showed the trick to Jenna so I thought I'd show it to you."
"It's so beautiful." Star choked up with tears running down his muzzle and nose from his adorable blue eyes as he bowed his head.
"Not as beautiful as you." I replied, leaning in close and licking Star's salty tears off his muzzle and nose with my tongue.
"Happy birthday, Kurt." Star replied back with an affectionate nuzzle, "It's so awesome to have a pal as sweet as you."
I nuzzled Star back with a blush spreading across my furry snout, "You're even sweeter, Star. I'm just glad that I got to hang out with you on my birthday."
"Um...Kurt, there's something I wanna ask you." Star blurted out, a blush spreading across his face.
"What is it? I asked, draping my paw across the small, goofy-looking husky.
"Will...will you be my mate? I know it's kinda weird for a guy dog to ask another guy dog to be his mate but I dunno...I guess I'm just kinda attracted to you. Never really thought that much about love to be honest." Star chuckled, his blush deepening as a hot tear rolled down his muzzle from embarrassment.
Once again, I leaned in close and licked Star's tear away before gazing deep into his sky blue eyes, "Of course I will, Star. Of course I will." I replied, wrapping my arms around Star and hugging him close.
"Thanks, Kurt. You're a much better friend to me than Kaltag ever was." Star replied as he nuzzled into my fur.
"I'll never, ever bonk you on the head, my little cutie pie." I replied, giving Star a kiss on his nose. All Star could do was laugh and lick at my muzzle as we cuddled with each other, warm and content until we finally fell asleep together.
