Disclaimer: I don't own newsies…
Upside Down
"Ugh, I'm bored," Blink complained, folding his arms over his chest.
"Then go find somethin' to do," Dodger replied from beside him. She was sitting next to him on the old couch in the lobby….Well, sitting wasn't exactly the correct term. Blink was sitting, Dodger was hanging off the couch with her feet where her head should be, and her head hanging above the floor. Her hair was brushing the dirty floor, but she didn't seem to notice. She was reading one of her favorite books, Oliver Twist. Blink watched as her eyes skimmed the words, back and forth, back and forth, occasionally flipping the pages every couple of minutes.
He sighed. "But I can't think of anythin' to do."
"Stop whinin', ya sound like a baby," she said, never taking her eyes off the book in front of her. "Here's a suggestion. Try doin' somethin' you enjoy, only differently. For example, I'm readin'. I do dat a lot, true? But dis time, I'm doin' it upside down."
"A small triumph, in my opinion. Excuse me if I don't applaude," Blink replied sarcastically.
"Ah well, I guess ya can just stay bored for all I care." Dodger said, turning another page of her book.
There was silence again for a few minutes while Dodger read and Blink continued to sulk. Then, an idea occurred to him, and he decided to try it. He turned over on the couch so he was now "sitting" upside down next to Dodger. He looked over at her. She still hadn't taken her eyes off the book. She hadn't even seemed to notice he was there. He frowned.
"How many times have ya read dat?" He asked irritably.
"Five," she replied. She still didn't look at him.
"Why don't ya ever read somethin' else?"
"Well, dere's not much ya can do on a tight budget, is dere? I just have to take what I already have and learn to enjoy it."
There was silence again for a few moments. Then Blink decided to carry out his idea. He grabbed the book out of Dodger's hands and tossed it on the floor next to him.
"Hey! Give me dat!" She exclaimed, but Blink kept her from saying anything more by leaning over and pressing his mouth to hers. The kiss lasted a few seconds, and then they broke apart, Dodger's eyes fluttering open. Gaining her wits back, Dodger raised her eyebrows. "Blink…what are you doing?"
Blink grinned mischievously. "Takin' your advice," he said simply. "You said to do somethin' I enjoy, only differently. So, I'se kissin' ya, upside down!"
"Yes, I'se can see dat," she rolled her eyes, "but dat's not what I meant when I said –"
"Ya know what?" Blink interrupted her. Dodger shook her head questioningly. "I don't think I actually care if you meant it or not." Then, he kissed her again, and this time, she kissed him back. They broke apart when they heard a throat being cleared above them. They looked up to find Jack, Racetrack, and Skittery looking down at them from where they were standing.
"Oh, heya Cowboy, Race, Skittery!" Dodger said, greeting them happily.
Blink waved up at them cheerfully as well. "Can we help you?" He asked.
Jack raised his eyebrows, a small smile on his lips. "Er, we'd like ta sit dere, properly, if ya don't mind."
"Yeah, well, we kinda do mind, so if you'll excuse us," Blink replied, and turned back to kiss Dodger again. The other newsies rolled their eyes and began walking away. "See ya Blink, Dodger," Racetrack said as they left. He never heard a reply.
A/N: Okay, so this was something I found in one of my notebooks the other day...it's actually an excerpt of a really long newsies story that I had never finished, but the story itself is not that good, this was the only really good part of the story. And just to let you know, I don't usually write fluff, it usually doesn't turn out very well written and stuff, so sorry if this was kinda dumb. But if you like it and think I should write more fluff, let me know! I just might write more of it! Read and review pwetty pwease!
