1. Family Reunion
Slender fingers ran themselves around the outline of the baseball cap America had left behind. Canada sighed as he traced the insignia stitched into the fabric. His brother had left it behind the last time he visited, two weeks ago. It would be another week until America realized he had lost it and then two more until he realized WHERE he had left it.
He smiled at the memory it brought back. America had been visiting Alaska the day before, when the snow reminded him he had a younger brother and he decided to pay him a visit. The entire time America had complained about Russia, confiding in Canada that he'd actually been in Alaska to search for Russian spies. Canada had laughed at that part; he didn't see what the big deal was. Sure, Russia was scary at times, but the nation had always been kind to the America look-alike… except when he sat on him, but that was a different story. Anyways, everyone knew Russia had given up on Alaska a long time ago.
At the end of the visit, America had left his baseball cap on the couch, like with most items he brought, and had left Canada with another object to remind him that he WASN'T completely alone.
"I'm hungy!" A small voice complained, a small claw pawing at his pant legs.
"Yeah, yeah, Kuma. I will make you some pancakes," Canada mock complained to the little polar bear staring up at him with forgetful black eyes.
Canada busied himself with his usual mid-day activity and thought back to the baseball cap sitting on the arm-rest of the sofa. Usually, Canada would wait for America to remember him, but not this time. This time, he would return the cap to his brother. This time, he had something up his sleeve.
Canada neared his brother's home, baseball cap on Kumajiro's head. Pulled up in the driveway was a rental car and Canada smiles softly, he knew he'd be right.
England, France and America were all gathered around the large coffee table in America's sitting room, England with his tea, France with his wine and America with his coke. The sun shined through the high windows, casting the room in a happy lighting for the family argument.
"I'm telling you we should have invited Australia, he's bound to liven up this dull meeting we always have. Actually, why do we have this meeting anyways?" America complained.
"First of all, this isn't a 'meeting' it is a family reunion, we have it to check up on one another, only right to have one. Second of all, Australia would… bring a little too much excitement," England explained calmly, sipping his tea.
"Well, Australia is part of the family," America argued, waving his hands around dramatically.
"Well, Australia is a wildlife nut who probably has fleas at the moment," England counted, glaring at America.
France poked a furrowing eyebrow.
"You git!"
"Non, non, calm down," France pleaded, holding his hands up to defend against the Englishman's punch. "It's just… I feel we are missing someone."
"See! France thinks we should invite Australia too," America said still arguing with England.
"Non! I mean someone else!" France shouted, still trying to protect his face.
The commotion was stopped when a quiet knock came from the door. England and France turned to America.
"Did you seriously invite Australia?" England asked, exasperated.
"No…" America answered, looking just as confused as the others.
"Well, answer it then!" France shouted, gesturing to the door that all the sudden looked foreboding.
"Yeah, yeah," America said, waving him off. He approached the door carefully and in one swift motion opened the door while simultaneously hiding behind it. When no bullets came and France or England didn't make a move to hide, America peaked around.
"AH! My clone is he- I mean, Mattie?" America asked, confused.
"W-what's happening?" Canada asked quietly, tears pooling in his eyes as he clutched the hat. He was not ready for this.
"Nono, it's not what you think!" America shouted, looking around wildly for an excuse. "It's, it's… Alright, it's the family reunion."
"F-fine!" Canada shouted (which was more like a normal volume) and threw the hat at America. "I'm obviously not wanted here, so, so, I'll just go home."
Canada turned around to start leaving when America grabbed his arm.
"Stop, brother. I'm just going to g-"
America cut him off by throwing him on the couch and the family crowded around the younger man. Canada struggled to get up and leave when America sat on him.
"Al, get off of me! It's enough that I get sat on in the meetings all the time!" Canada shouted again.
"N- wait, you get sat on- you know what, I'll save that for another time," America decided.
"Sat on?!" Two European voices exclaimed, the two brother's waved them off.
"Just sit here! You are going to hear me out!" America shouted angrily. "I know we are family and all… It's just, you are very easy to forget and-"
England hit him.
"Shut up, you git! You aren't helping! You think you can help this by telling him you don't notice him?"
"Of course I notice him! I'm the hero!" America shouted back.
"No you don't!" Canada yelled back. "If you notice me why didn't you invite me to your 'family reunion', after all, I am part of the family. D-do you j-just not want me a-around?"
"Oh my, Lad, that isn't the reason. Just because you're not on the tip of the tongue sometimes doesn't mean you're unwanted. If anyone here was unwanted it would be America or Australia," England said trying to comfort him. Francis nodded sympathetically while America squawked indignantly.
"Hey!" America's shout went unnoticed as Canada burst out laughing hysterically.
"I second zat, we will always love you ze way sat you are," France added on.
"Now, America you git, get off him!" England yelled at him.
"But I don't waaaaaannnnnnaaaaa," America whined.
Canada glared at his back and shoved him off with one giant push. America fell to the floor and pouted at him.
"Mattie-" He whined. "You're comfy."
"Russia probably also thinks that," Canada muttered under his breath.
"What?" America asked, not hearing, when a crash came from outside. Canada started laughing hysterically.
"Come on out!" He shouted and a tan silhouette filled the doorway.
"Australia," came two low groans from England and France's area.
"Yo, dude! You came! How'd you even hear about this? No matter, I told these guys you'd liven the place up!" America spit out with his naive million mega-watt smile and bounced right up to go greet his guest. He was shoved aside.
"I heard y'all were havin' a family reunion with out me!" Australia instead announced. "And I hear I'm unwanted. And oh! Thanks for the hint, Canadia-dude."
Three heads turned back to the laughing Canadian.
"I-I knew you were having this family reunion, y-you have it on the same d-day every year. I invited Australia to get back at you guys." Canada managed to get out in between giggles.
They all stared at Canada with wide eyes with the exception of Australia who was helping himself to some beer he found in America's fridge.
"Well, I guess we're going to have to change the date next year," England stated just loud enough for France, America, and Canada to hear.
