I'm very slowly becoming obsessed with this pairing. Moreover…I truly do not like Sasuke. I just don't. And yet…I came up with this. I'm fucking with his mind.
Disclaimer: Nothing.
-Giving Up-
Dark red eyes stare out at the landscape, from atop the highest cliff in Konoha. He can see the treetops and almost count each one, comprising the forest. The woodlands stretch on for miles and only dissipates in the distance because it vanishes upon the horizon. This was his home, in all its beauty and yet, he wants nothing more than to leave.
He stands straight up, as the wind blows and tosses his raven hair in all directions. It echoes because he's so far up and all alone on the ridge overlooking the faces of the fallen fathers. He never looks at the carvings because the most deserving face has not yet shinned in history.
If he leaves, he will be back for that day. He will come back; he is certain of that. But time holds nothing but uncertainty for his wandering soul. He resembles a rock and often, he flings them off the edge of the mountain and watches them sail in the streams of air. He yearns to be as free as the wind and as cool as a breeze. But the air is pure and he is not.
Sasuke knows that he has to give everything up, if he ever wishes to truly find something worth holding onto. He should give up his mission, but he won't. He can't. He owes his kin every drop of his brother's blood. He owes his family peace. But he owes so much more to his village, hidden in the leaves.
He is willing to give up friendship, his sensei and his headband, if it means finding justice and purpose in someone else's death. He swore that he would never hesitate. Nor did he ever falter. He serveres all ties and disappeares into the darkness, which engulfs his figure and hides his suffering all too well.
Sasuke gave up everything, just to be able to never give up again. He left them all behind but he never buried them, just as he buried his kin. He'd never forget that book, that crush, or that rivalry. He ran and fought his own battles. They cost him everything.
But he came home, dragging himself, battered and bloodied. He gave up his village, but they had not given up on him. His team, they, in their entirety, smiled for him. And he smiled too. He gave up everything, and only then did he realize that he was lying to himself.
No, I have not given up everything.
He left many people behind, but his last name was ever present. His heritage, his bloodline, his eyes, his reason to live…his Uchicha clan. He truly was the sole survivor, the last of his kind. He never gave up on his family. Their dead souls thank him, but they were in the past and he was in the present. Their love was not enough. He needed more.
He needed something…and to find that something, he had to give up everything.
Sasuke watched the sun set, as the scarlet and rose tinting of the sky almost matched the depths of his eyes. But there were oranges streaks in the swirls of hot colors and they never matched him. The wind followed the sun beyond the vanishing point and Sasuke was truly alone again.
Alone with his thoughts.
He only realized, just then…
''Sasuke!'' Naruto called out to him. ''There you are!''
Sasuke turned and genuinely smiled at his teammate. ''I'm going to give it all up for you, Naruto.''
-EndE-
Excuse the awkward tense, blatant repetition and vague ending. If you didn't catch its symbolism, here's the short version. If Sasuke pursues Naruto, in a relationship, he'd be giving up his clan, because they wouldn't be able to procreate. But knowing Sasuke, he wouldn't ever abandon his clan, until Itachi was dead. So I made it seem like this was Sasuke's last moment, before he left (insert the 2 and a half year gap here) but no, he was actually looking back at the past, in the present tense. Isn't that strange?
