"It's always hard to lose somebody. It leaves a hole in you heart that never grows back. "
― Kevin Brooks, Lucas
Lucas read a lot of books and in those books he's read, oftentimes, there would always be a part where everything always turned out the way it wasn't supposed to, and though many believe that's just pure coincidence, it had always dawned on people at the right circumstances that this was true… in one way or another, at least.
He believed it now, he believed because he had proof. Denying was easy when you had still hope in the back of your mind, but knowing well and seeing the main evidence in front of you, well, there was no other choice but to let that hope go and consider what was right in front of you.
Today was supposed to be the day they started anew; they were finally going to visit their new home and settle in a place far away from Tree Hill, away from all the pain this place had caused them. It wasn't as though they wanted to leave by choice, because really, this town was where they were born and where they grew up. Memories were made here and many things they know would always be significant in their life, but that's the thing… it hadn't been their choice.
It had been the council's vote that they leave and not cause any more problems for this town. They'd found out about his father's corrupt system and since then, they'd viewed their family as some kind of treacherous and horrible people. Dan had been kicked out of court, his stepmother was fired from her job and him and his brother were expelled.
Their days had been limited since… two months had been the least. In less than sixty days, they were given a chance to find a place, pack up and get out of there, otherwise, his father was going to be locked up and his mother too. They thought they were all in this scam to ruin Tree Hill but he, nor his half-brother and stepmother knew nothing about this, nevertheless, the town never believed them.
The doorbell woke him from his daze and without even as much a thought stood up and opened the door. Nathan followed suit and they both looked at the police with confusion etched on their handsome faces.
'Your Dan Scott's sons, right?' The man asked, not wasting any time.
They both nodded, simultaneously, in fact.
There was a long pause before the man sighed and looked at them both with sadness in his eyes.
'Deborah Scott and Dan Scott are dead.'
