Of Mice and Men
Chapter 6
The sun rose from the top of the house shining light onto the lush green fields. Large tress surrounded the outside of the ranch. The rocky Gabilan mountains casted a shadow over a large rectangular barn.
The barn door opened slightly, Lennie appeared from the shadows with a heap of alfalfa in one hand and a small wriggling puppy in the other. Lennie dragged his feet as he walked towards the rabbits.
"hello little rabbits" Lennie said as he placed the alfalfa in their pen.
The small puppy continued to wriggle in Lennie's arm.
"Stop it!" he shouted shouted at the pup.
The puppy continued to squeal and lunged itself forward out of Lennie's grasp.
"No puppy No!" boomed Lennie as he chased after it.
Meanwhile George and Candy were in the kitchen, George was reading the Sunday news paper while Candy was washing up the last of the dishes from breakfast.
"Now what's your Lennie up to now?" Candy said, looking out the window.
George put his paper down, stood up and walked towards the window.
"He's a crazy bastard!, just look at 'im " said George while laughing to himself.
Candy and George continued to watch Lennie from the window. Lennie was stumbling around the arm chasing after the small brown pup.
"Come back, i don't wanna hurt you" Lennie shouted.
Candy sighed, "What we gonna do with 'im George?" asked candy
" Just leave 'im to it, as long as he keeps out of trouble" replied George as he turned towards the table. He returned to his seat ans began to read his paper once again. Candy rubbed his bristly white whiskers with his stump then returned to the dishes.
Lennie spent most of the morning running after the pup and tending to the rabbits. Things were busier since they left the ranch, curley, his wife and all their troubles behind.
