Underground

It was dark in the subway tunnels, dark, and damp, and quiet. Several weeks ago, this place was bursting with life actually, if by 'life' one means giant subterranean insects from the future. Now, however, these insects were all gone, thanks to the timely actions of the ARC's field crew.

Now, however, there was something else in these tunnels – yet another time anomaly. And something else was coming through. One booted foot stepped through, and then another, followed by the rest of the person.

"Let's see, this sounds like the possible outcome version 37-F8," the woman muttered, as she carefully walked away from the time anomaly (which snapped shut behind her), to a hidden cranny, fortunately (or not?) undiscovered earlier by the ARC's field crew. Inside the cranny lay – among other things - a cold steel blade, a pair of brass knuckles, a bayonet from an AK-47 assault rifle, a PMN mine, and a time clock that was ticking away in the absolute darkness, silence and emptiness.

"Aha, it is the summer of 2011," the woman smiled thinly. "That means I am dead, technically speaking," she snorted at the last bit. "Oh well, I'm sure that they got over it, starting with dear, dear Conner, Becker and Abby – they'll be so disappointed – oh well. Destiny awaits!"

After a brief consideration the woman took the bayonet and the mine, put it into her backpack and left the empty chamber, her footsteps echoing hollowly in the subterranean corridors.
