Disclaimer: I don't own Torchwood. If I did, this would not be necessary.

A/N: A friend and I were discussing the Twitter party tomorrow, Thursday September 9th for the Save Ianto Jones campaign and we were discussing how they could bring him back in the show. And this happened. If you want to join the Twitter party, review and I'll tell you how. I hope you enjoy, and yes, there will probably be more.

Torchwood Season 4: Last Five Minutes

Chapter 1

It had been another long day at and everyone in the group was feeling the effects. Ester was dozing in front of her computer, Jack having covered her with his coat a while ago while he lounged with Gwen on the couch. Rex was off who knew where, and really, Jack had gotten used to that. This new guy lived by his own rules, much like Jack had when he was in charge of Torchwood Cardiff. But those days were long gone.

What was even stranger is that they should all be home at that point. It was nearly eleven thirty at night and it didn't look as though there was going to be any trouble for the rest of the night. And, more than anything, Jack was craving his bed. Without coffee, which he had refused to drink since…the 456…he had found himself more fatigued than he ever remembered being. Other than that coma…don't think about it.

He closed his eyes and tensed, trying to block out the memories that threatened to overtake him, and he felt Gwen's hand on his shoulder, not saying anything, just supporting him as much as she could. "Gwen…go, go home to Rhys and Owen. I'll tell Rex you weren't feeling well," he said, opening his eyes to look at her once he had regained his composure.

"I'll go in a few minutes if whatever Rex has planned hasn't happened yet," she promised, looking at him with concern. "Maybe you should come too." Her voice was gentle and it stabbed at Jack painfully.

"I'm going to go find Rex," Jack said, standing up, but just then the man in question came bounding in. "Rex, what is going-"

"Who's thirsty?" the man asked excitedly.

Jack and Gwen looked at him in disbelief while Ester poked her head up. "What?" Gwen asked, walking over to stand next to Jack.

"Who's thirsty?" he repeated.

Sighing, Jack rolled his eyes. "Alright, I'll go with it. I'm thirsty."

Rex grinned and pressed on his Bluetooth. "Ian? Yeah, come on up." He looked around at the team. "I got us a new teammate. He's more…paperwork type issues, but still, it'll be good to have an extra set of hands for the harder fights we've got coming."

Jack felt something tug at him and he turned around as Gwen stepped forward and took his hand. "Rex…couldn't this have happened…in the morning?" she asked.

"He wanted to come by tonight. But we were busy all day," he explained as they heard footsteps approaching. There was a gasp from next to Jack and he looked to Gwen, seeing her eyes wide and tearing up.

"Gwen?" he asked, turning to her and grabbing her shoulder. "What is it?"

"Still like your coffee industrial strength sir?" a Welsh voice asked. But it wasn't just any Welsh voice, it was one that Jack hadn't heard since that day in Thames House. He turned slowly and saw the man before him.

"Everyone, this is-"

"Ianto…" Jack murmured, and Gwen clapped her hands over her mouth. The man in front of him smiled and nodded toward Jack.

"Yes sir?" he asked, eyes twinkling.

"Yan…" something that sounded like Jack's voice said. It came out of his mouth, he knew that, but it sounded like it was far away. And then the world around him went dark and he collided with the ground. The last thing he heard was a desperate cry of "Jack!" before oblivion swallowed him.
