In light of the new info we've found on Miranda, I thought I'd write a fic about it. Nope. It's not Miranda POV. Not Declan. So you're all wondering who it is now, right? It's Miranda's mother!
Diana sighed as she stared down at the little baby girl now sleeping in her lap. The girl had cried for hours, but Diana had no idea how to comfort a little baby. She never was that good with children.
What really puzzled Diana was the fact that the baby wasn't even due for another month, and yet, amazingly, she was perfectly healthy and well developed, according to the on-call doctor at the airport.
She looked to the seat next to her, where her husband was sleeping peacefully. She was the only one awake. Perhaps it was because it had just hit her that she was a mother now. She was expected to care for this little girl, but she hadn't the slightest idea how she was supposed to go about it.
She had to admit that the baby *was* very cute, and the little corner of her mind that wasn't absolutely terrified felt a maternal pride.
It was then that she realized that she would have to name the girl, but what in the world would she name her?
She sighed. This might take a while. She laid her head back on the airplane seat as random names flew though her head.
Mary -- too common.
Eliza -- umm no.
Cornelia -- too fancy.
Jane -- once again ... to common.
Lillian -- pretty ... but it didn't quite fit.
Just then, the flight attendant came by, checking to make sure that everyone was comfortable. Upon seeing Diana's baby, she immediately came over and said, "What a cute little baby! What's his name?"
"It's a girl," Diana corrected the flight attendant.
"Oh! I'm sorry." she said, obviously hoping that Diana wasn't offended.
"It's okay." Diana assured her.
"What's her name?" she asked, this time correcting herself on the gender of the baby.
"I haven't decided yet." Diana said as she again looked inquisitively at the child in her arms.
"Well, she's beautiful." the flight attendant said, smiling broadly. As she left, Diana caught a glimpse of her name tag .... Miranda.
"Miranda ..." she said softly as she once again turned her attention to the baby sleeping peacefully in her lap.
It was a good name, she speculated as she tried to rock her child in her arms. To her relief, she -- Miranda -- didn't wake up.
Even if it was just for one moment, Diana felt that maybe she might be able to be a good mother to this child. At least, she thought as Miranda let out a yawn, she'd give it a try.
Okay. It turned out to be a story about how Miranda got her name. So what did you think of it? Was it good? I think that this is the first story I've written that wasn't from the point of view of a main character ... except maybe Maggie's Choice.
