Sunday Mass, 1478 Easter at the Vatican.
I took my family with me to Easter mass all of Rome wanted to see the Pope at the Vatican this year. I guided Ottaviano and Bianca to the front, sitting next to them with Caterina at my side holding my hand a beaming smile on her face. The look was her pretending to be happy and trying not to be angry with me for trying to kill her friends Ezio Auditore and Leonardo da Vinci.
"You don't have to pretend you're not angry with me Caterina. You have every right to be furious with me."
"Girolamo I love you I really do but you need to think about not only me but the children too. They need a father not a Templar. You can't keep doing this shit to them and I'm done tolerating it," I stared at her appalled at what she said in the house of God.
"Caterina there are things I have to do to succeed in this goal that my father and I have, but I'll try. I'm not making any promises but I'll try."
"Fine, I'll cut you a deal," she said as more people filed into the church, "Next time we go to Florence I'll have my mother take care of the children. It'll be just the two of us, but here's what you have to do."
"I sighed, "Yes."
"You will not charge Leo with the crime of sodomy."
"I have to-"
"Then wait, say you're going to go more in depth with your plans. Anything just say something."
I looked in her eyes, grabbed her hand, and looked at her wedding ring knowing that it only meant arguments and hostile dinners and angry sex because that's all anything is, she loved me but she also loved Ezio and caught the eye of a man named Robin Hood. Someday she will take the children and leave me but that day is far away for now, "I-I'll," I let out an exasperated breath and closed my eyes opening them again, "I will see what I can do," I mostly said that to attempt to save our marriage doubtful it will work.
"Thank you, Girolamo," she said.
"The Pope has arrived," we stood as Sixtus reached the front and signalled for us to sit, Bianca ran up and hugged her Grandfather.
"Bianca," I said, "Come back here."
"I wanted to greet uncle Papa," she said, I had forgotten that everyone thought my father is my uncle and the real Pope.
"Girolamo it's alright," my father crouched down to speak with his granddaughter, "God has blessed you with your mother's traits. Hold fast to them for they are hard to come by and very powerful which means I pray you use them wisely," he put a hand on Bianca's shoulder and my hand turned into a fist, "Now go back to your father so that we may begin."
Bianca nodded, "Thank you Holy Father," she skipped back over to us and smiled as Caterina pushed some hair out of the child's face. I glared at my father and he looked at me his eyes saying 'watch your step boy'. Bianca apologized.
"It's okay Bianca," I said, "Now it's time to listen."
She nodded and we continued our day after mass.
