As they walked through the remains of Hogwarts, she couldn't help holding back tears. Her red-headed campanion just stares straight ahead with silent tears streaming down his face. Gone. Everyone and everything they'd come to love about Hogwarts seemed to be gone. Blood drips from the walls as they make their way towards the Gryffindor common room. They've been walking side by side, not touching, not looking at each other the entire time. And suddenly she can't stand it. Without looking at him she lets her blood stained hand find his. As soon as she clasps his hand, a look of closure washes over him. He seems to relax at her touch, and only her touch. She notices and glances at him with a watery smile on her face. He continues to stare straight ahead, though now allowing a small smile to form on his cracked lips. And suddenly, something inside of her clicks, and she bounds forwards into his arms. She's finally letting her tears fall as she drenches the front of his shirt. He wraps his arms around her and rests his chin on her head. "How can you stand it?" she whispers once her sobs had subsided. "I can't." he says, and yet those two words alone are enough to make her hug him tighter and whisper "I…I love you Ron." As those words make their way up towards his ears, he chuckles. Slowly, as if speaking to a child, he says " I love you too Hermione."

He's broken. She's scarred.

And yet, they've never been happier.
