Friendship is a funny thing when you come to think about it, I mean friends can go through a hell of alot together and still manage to stick by each others sides, but when a girl comes along and all the hormones start to kick in it's kind of hard to resist temptation if you know what i'm talking about. And sometimes you can take advantage of your friends patients, you may not know it but each time you let your friends down they're loosing faith in your loyalty for them.
In the summer of '61 we all felt little let down by each other. Chis, Vern, Teddy, and I all had big plans for this summer, it was gonna be the best, because this year we wern't gonna take no crap from Ace and his little lap dogs, and we were all gonna stick together against the Cobra's just like we did in '59, it was gonna be boss.
But something happened that put a big hold on our plans, something huge, that something was a girl, a girl named Colleen. Man, i'll never forget her, I doubt Chris, Vern, and Teddy will ever forget her either.
It was the first Saturday of the summer and the guys and I had arranged to meet up at the tree house for a game of cards....
"Hey Chris, whats up?"
"Hey man. Did you see the new family arrive today?"
"I heard my mom talk about some family moving here, who'd wanna move to Castle Rock?" Not much happened in Castle Rock so when anything did happened, even the most minute thing, it would be the talk of the town.
"Yeah, Teddy and Vern went to check it out. You wanna play cards man?"
"Sure." Chris seemed kind of pissed, I figured that it was something to do with his dad, it was on the tip of my tongue to ask him what was wrong but Teddy and Vern got back.
"Oh man, you should see the new girl, totally hot!" Teddy's glasses seemed to steam up as he was telling us.
"She waved at me, sincerley"
"eeeeee- eeeee -eee!" Teddy still had that crazy laugh. "Dream on pal, she waved at me!"
"I doubt she waved at either of you girls."
"Screw you Chris, your just jealous 'cus the girl isn't interested in you for a change!"
"Maybe because she hasn't seen me yet, man your dumb!"
"Cool it guys! we got some plannin' to do, remember." I didn't care bout any skirt at this point. All that was on my mind was how we weren't gonna let the Cobra's ruin our summer again.
