"It's going to kill you, you know."

"I don't care," he says, spitting the words out of his mouth, harsh and unfeeling. "I'm dead already, why not do it in style?"

"It's—it's—I don't know," and that's all she has to say, to be honest. "But—Jason—this isn't you."

"It's who they want to be me. Just like mother, huh?" he laughs, dryly, and takes another sip from the bottle, and she tries to stop him, but he pushes her hand away, lightly—not so far gone, not yet, to forget that he loves her.

"You're not like your mother. I love you, you can't do this to yourself—"

"I can. I will. I don't know how you do it, Pipes," he chuckles, finally putting the bottle down and reaching out towards her, "I've been the hero for too long, I can't keep going—"

"For me. Do it for me."

"I—" he looks, for a second, like he's almost considering giving up his addiction but then—no. "You don't get it. I'm supposed to be a Roman hero, but—I don't think they want me, not anymore. And the Greeks—well, I've never belonged. Just a Roman hero with a Greek side who nobody wants."

"Jason, I want you . . ."

"And I love you, Piper, I really do," he coughs, "but I don't know if it's enough."
