Castiel sits down on the concrete bench in the middle of the garden. His Heaven.
It's so peaceful here, no distractions, no noise. Only the occasional flutter of wings from an angel passing through or a prayer from Dean.
Dean.
Cas misses him so much—Sam and Bobby too—but the Leviathans weakened him significantly. He can't travel to Earth or even let Dean know that he's okay. Now Cas has been demoted to ferrying souls to their Heavens. Such a tedious job, but once Cas regains his strength, he'll go back to assisting the Winchesters and Bobby, his family.
He looks around, loving the sight of the bright flowers, green grass, and the eternally cloudy sky.
Suddenly, Cas hears a barking sound. It gets louder and louder until in front of him is a beagle, smiling brightly.
The dog's collar reads 'Bridey'. She sits patiently, cocking her head to the side as Castiel studies her.
What a strange creature, he thinks. There's brown and black splotches all over her body, in and around the majority of white fur.
She barks again and puts her front paws up on Cas' knee expectantly.
"What do you want? I don't understand…"
And then there's a tennis ball, a Frisbee, and a stick next to Cas on the bench. Dog toys from her time on Earth.
"You want me to play?" Cas asks, picking up the tennis ball.
Bridey barks again, continuing to smile at the angel.
Cas stands up, the tennis ball in hand and Bridey runs off a little ways away, waiting for him to throw it.
He throws it halfway across the garden and she catches it midair, bringing it back to Castiel. Bridey licks his hand a little bit as she drops the ball into his hand.
A smile spreads across his face as they play some more, alternating between the three toys. Although, out of the three, Bridey's favorite one seems to be the Frisbee. Cas finds it amusing as well.
After a while, Cas sits down cross-legged under the large tree at the center of the garden. Bridey crawls into his lap and rests her head on his knee.
"You had a human, didn't you, Bridey?" Cas says, petting her head. "So did I…"
Bridey doesn't react, she just shows him some memories of her time on Earth. Cas sees mostly images of her favorite human, a girl named Alison. Images of her smiling and laughing as she plays with Bridey, or gives her pieces of food.
"You miss her, don't you?" he asks.
Bridey lifts up her head and sort of nods.
"It's alright, Bridey," Cas reassures her kindly. "I miss people too."
