The Last Marauder
A/N This is just an idea that has been stirring in my mind for a while, I just think that Remus was such a special character that his life should be remembered. Please review, no hate thanks but constructive criticism is fine :))

Whenever he looked back at his childhood and his years at school, Remus Lupin knew that it had been the best time of his life. There had been good times in his adult life of course but surely nothing could live up to having James and Sirius as his best friends.
Now they were all dead and Remus knew, as he stared into the dark mask of the Death Eater looming over him, that his own death was close at hand.
Remus stretched out his hand to Tonks who was about half a meter away from him with her back pressed against the wall, he knew that there was no escape this time. Tonks reached out towards him and they grasped hands. Remus felt the warmth of her fingers and the hammering of his heart beating, trying to stay alive. But he knew that there was nothing that he could do; his wand lay several feet away from him and anyway, the Death Eater would kill him before he had the chance to fight back. No, he would die here with his wife's hand clasped in his own and feeling the lightness that he always felt when he remembered that she loved him, even though she knew what he was.
Was this what each of his old friends had seen before they died? He wondered. Sirius had been murdered by his cousin Belatrix Lestrange two years ago but Remus knew that he had been broken since Marlene's death which had happened barely a week before James and Lily had been killed by Voldemort himself. Alice and Frank had been tortured to insanity and Peter, he had heard, had killed himself in the war. At least he had died to protect Harry – as they all had.
They had probably seen what he was seeing right now. That offered Remus some comfort. Now he was the last Marauder, the only one left and he knew that he too was about to die just as surely as he knew that he loved Tonks and his son Teddy... Teddy. For a second, fear gripped him as cold as ice; he didn't want to go and leave his barely newborn son alone in the world.
Harry would look after him, Remus reminded himself briefly. He'll be a good Godfather to him and Tonks' mum Andromeda will care for him as if he were her own son.
All of these thoughts went through Remus' mind in a matter of seconds, like a streak of lightning. He only had enough time to drew one last deep breath and squeeze Tonks' hand quickly before the world exploded in a bright, blinding flash of green light and Remus Lupin, husband of Tonks', father of Teddy Lupin and last of the Marauders fell to the ground, not hearing as his wife's scream was cut off and she too collapsed next to him, knowing nothing more.
