Chapter 1- Hearts Set A 'Blaze

Mario sighed as he read the new bulletin put up on the super smash bros. website by Princess Peach. It read as follows:
"Mario is a scumbag and I hate him so much. He wouldn't kiss me on our date & he was always looking in the distance. I wouldn't be surprised if he's cheating on me."
Several people had commented on it slurring and cursing his name. It's true that he and Peach had become distant lately and it's true Mario had his mind on someone else but he'd never cheat on Peach. He closed the laptop as he heard his name called for a tournament battle. He went to the portal and saw an old friend, Lucario, was to be his partner.
"That's good. Who are we up against Lucario?" the mustachioed plumber asked and the aura reader pointed to the large screen with the words: Mario and Lucario vs. Bowser and Link. Mario gulped as he saw the green shelled koopa's name. The person who had been on the red capped hero's mind wasn't a woman but in fact was his arch rival, Boswer Koopa. Why you may ask? Well it's because Mario, over the years, developed a crush on the mean green monster king.
"You wish not to harm the one you care for correct Mario?" the blue furred pokemon questioned the hero. Mario shook his head and sighed.
"It doesn't matter Lucario, let's just get it over with," he said as they were all teleported to the stage. Later after the battle Mario went to look for Peach who didn't show up to cheer him on like she normally did and when he found his princess she wasn't very welcoming. In fact she smacked him across the face in front of everyone.
"I now your secret now Mario and you're a freak," she said as her close friend Zelda consoled the distraught pink clad woman. Link looked at Mario with an expression that stated "sorry" and left with Zelda and Peach. Mario solemnly walked out to the garden and sat beside an enormous sunflower as Olimar tended the flowers.
"I heard what happened," a deep voice stated startling Mario. Standing in front of him was the koopa king in all of his glory. The sun shone off his green shiny shell as each spike glistened. The breeze blew the red tuft of hair on his head causing Mario to blush.
"What do you want Bowser? Come to gloat about your victory today," Mario asked as he sat on the concrete bench. The large koopa chuckled and shook his head as he smiled.
"No nothing like that. I had heard Peach dumped you and I wanted to know if it was true," he said quickly as he waited for a response from the forlorn hero.
"Yeah she broke up with me," the hero sighed and waited for the koopa to gloat. However that didn't come to pass. Instead he heard Bowser gulp and chuckle nervously.
"S-So you have no one to um go to the b-bros. ball with correct?" the green shelled koopa stuttered out. Mario gave the koopa king a curious stare and the nodded. "GOOD! I um mean w-well if you don't have anyone to go with do you err maybe want to go…with me?"
Mario was taken aback by the sudden proposal. Here was his enemy turned crush asking him to the ball. He blushed hard and stammered out a "yes" much to Bowser's surprise. They embraced as Olimar watched them from the bushes smiling.
"Good for them eh Piko?" the astronaut turned gardener said to the tiny yellow Pikman beside him and tickled it as it chirped out happily.
