Sorry I haven't been updating stories later... I'll try to write more in the holidays!

Try, at least...

Sam could hear the wind whistling through the trees and the flowing of a river nearby.

He sensed someone beside him and didn't dare open his eyes. His mind was clouded and his limbs felt heavy.

Celaena. With that name, a deluge of memories threatened to overflow.

Sam remembered the unbelievable pain.

He had wanted to die. He had begged, his screams echoing through the narrow hallways. But he was too far away from society to be heard.

Only she had kept him alive. He had fought for her.

He hoped she was alive.

A small grunt made its' way out of Sam's throat as he opened his eyes to searing light.

The person by his side was instantly in motion. They held his hands to the ground. He attempted to move his legs, but remembered they were broken. He winced as they pushed his fingers to the ground.

Yes, he wouldn't stand a chance if they tried to kill him. But he still tried to get free.

"Stop!" The person cried out, their voice unmistakably female, "I don't want to hurt you!"

"Who are you?" He demanded, "Where am I?"

"I'm Elide. We're somewhere near Rifthold."

"What do you mean, near?"

Elide held up her hands in defense, "I was on my way there and this guy came up to me."

"And? Who was he?"

"Arobynn Hamel, I think. So, he gave me your body, because he didn't need you anymore."

"Is that what he said?"

"Yeah." She frowned at him, "You good to walk? I need to find Celaena."

The blood froze in Sam's veins as she said that name, "How do you know her?"

"Oh, I don't. I had a friend that wanted me to give her something."

"Had?"

A shadow of grief passed over her eyes, "She… um… died."

"Died?" A sickening feeling rose in Sam's stomach.

Elide's gaze fell to the ground, "She sacrificed herself so me and my friend could escape."

"Who's your friend?"

"A witch." She winced as if the words wounded her.

He ignored the fact that she was a witch, "What did you need to give to Celaena?"

"A stone."

He would have told her that a stone didn't matter, but a wave of exhaustion swept over him. He swayed and then collapsed as a memory overtook him.

He could hear someone sobbing.

It felt like they were far away.

Pain racked his whole body.

He wished he could die.

But there was something about that sobbing…

It sounded like…

Celaena…

He attempted to lift his arm and soothe her, but it felt like he was no longer connected to his body.

He couldn't move.

Sam tried not to think about his love and the way she cried over him.

"Why you, Sam?" She sobbed as he fell back into unconsciousness.
