Harry's Night Off

Beautiful Alice

Summary: Harry finally gets a night to relax, but Bob won't leave him alone.

"Harry…"

Harry tried hard to ignore the spirit's voice, seriously considering to just vanquish him. It was his first night off in ages, and he was enjoying a book by Terry Pratchett called 'Good Omens' which he'd read a few times before, but was one of his favorites anyway.

"Harry…you promised, Harry." The spirit droned, and Harry gritted his teeth as he took a slow, deep breath and began to relax despite the spirit talking to him.

"Harry-you promised to get me some romance novels. Some good romance novels…" Bob was driving him up the wall, and Harry considered leaving, but he knew that the spirit was right. Bob deserved the books too, which was worse, because he'd been a tremendous help to Harry with the last case that he'd worked on. He'd gone home, forgetting completely about the books that he'd promised to get Bob. He checked his watch and saw that it was only eight o'clock. There was a bookstore down the street he could run over too, get the books, and the maybe Bob would leave him alone.

"Harry, if you don't get me those books, I promise you that I won't help on your next meaningless case." Bob warned, and there had indeed been a few meaningless cases that Harry had taken, where he'd needed the spirits advice. Cases like people asking him if they were really psychics and whatnot. He sighed.

"Bob, I'll make you a deal if you'll just leave me alone, okay? I promise that tomorrow morning instead of the usual five romance books that I get you, I'll get you ten. And all from Brava publishing company," He suggested.

Bob went quiet.

"Deal? Good. Because I'm tired, and it's the first night off I'd had in ages," Harry grumbled, turning back to his own book.

"Fifteen instead of ten," Bob said suddenly, and Harry gritted his teeth.

"Fine," He snapped out, feeling annoyed. Bob smiled at him.

"Thank you Harry," He said, surprising him. Bob almost never thanked him for the books that he got, and he briefly wondered what the spirit was up to now. Before he could respond, he heard Bob's quiet, "Good night." Before Bob was disappearing into thin air to get back to his skull. Harry stared at the empty spot where Bob was, and shook his head once.

"I ought to be crazy," He muttered, turning the page within Good Omens.

But at least now Bob was leaving him alone, Mister was sound asleep nearby, and Mouse was lying at his feet out cold. There was a fire cackling merrily in the fireplace, and everything seemed completely fine.

It was his night off.

And he was going to enjoy it.

END.

Author's Notes: Takes place after he gets Mouse, so use your cannon skills however you want.
