It was a seemingly average day in the Pokémon region of Alola. The Legendary and Mythical Pokémon scampered throughout the luscious forests in search of berries and other Pokémon friends...except for Hoopa.
Hoopa just looked up at the sky, watching Tapu Koko fly by, remaining vigilant on its watch for Melemele Island. "Hoopa wishes Hoopa could go to new places..." Hoopa said sadly, playing with one of its rings and twirling it around on its finger. Suddenly Hoopa got an idea. It rushed around in search of every other Pokémon and told them it was going on a journey.
"Hoopa will be back before more Pokémon in Alola are discovered!" Hoopa called out, vanishing through one of its portals to an entirely new world.
Meanwhile, on a different island than Melemele, two children strolled along the seaside and gathered seashells in a bucket. One child was wearing a plain yellow T-shirt, jean shorts, and blue tennis shoes, with jet black hair and brown eyes. The other child, a girl, was wearing a red dress and white shorts, with red hair and orange eyes.
"So whaddaya think's gonna happen next here, Sosuke?" Ponyo asked her older brother anxiously, her bright orange eyes sparkling a vibrant mahogany.
Sosuke shrugged. "I dunno. But if something's gonna happen, it'll probably happen sooner than later," he replied, picking up a small conch shell and putting it in the bucket.
Suddenly a swirling vortex appeared in midair, and Hoopa crashed through it and into the two children's shell bucket. By the time Hoopa recovered from its dizziness, it had shells all over itself. "Ow! Hoopa did not have a good teleport..." Hoopa said to itself. Ponyo was instantly mesmerized.
"Wow, a new creature! Hey, Sosuke...whaddaya think this creature is?" she asked, picking up Hoopa and shaking it like a rattle by both hands.
"Hoopa's name is Hoopa! Hoopa is a Pokémon who will play with you in any way!" Hoopa said with a bow.
Ponyo's eyes sparkled more. "Wowwee! So will you collect seashells with us, Hoopa?" she asked hopefully, grabbing the bucket and pulling the already collected shells off Hoopa's head.
Hoopa smiled a big, toothy grin. "Sure! Hoopa loves collecting seashells!" it said happily, picking up some shells of its own while Sosuke pulled his sister aside.
"Ponyo, how do you know we can trust Hoopa?" he whispered to his sister in worry, then looked over at the playful Hoopa. "That thing appeared out of nowhere, and your first reaction is to play with it!"
Ponyo was shocked. "But, Sosuke! Hoopa's a nice thing, though!" she whined, kicking up some sand with her foot. "C'mon, pleeeeease? Please let Hoopa stay just a little while!"
Sosuke, after a moment of hesitation, finally agreed. "Fine. But we cannot tell mom about this."
