ThunderClan camp
Larchkit yawned and stretched. Limbs flowing with energy, Larchkit leaped outside. The spring air made Larchkit feel refreshed, and the mood of the Clan was satisfying. Warriors snoozed and entered camp from patrols. Elders were gossiping and the leader, Kestrelstar, was eating a fat piece of rabbit. Everyone was happy, so she was happy.
Spotting Sagepaw, a silver tom with black markings, poking at his food bitterly, Larchkit decides to jump in and brighten his day.
"Hey, Sagepaw!" called Larchkit, bounding over to the gloomy apprentice. Sagepaw lifted his head and greeted her with a stare. "What you want?" asked Sagepaw gruffly. "To put a smile on that frowny face." answered the kit simply. Sagepaw chuckled, but this one was hollow. "Yeah well, don't waste your breath. It's bad enough already."
"Really?" Larchkit cocked her head in a funny way, knowing this one might crack a smile. Sagepaw only stared. "Yes. Now go away, annoying kit." Larchkit felt hurt that he referred her as an 'annoying'kit' even though he knew her name. "I'm not annoying," responded Larchkit indignantly. "Yes you are. You don't even know why I'm gloomy." answered Sagepaw, glaring at her. "Then why?" asked Larchkit. "Because I did something stupid." muttered Sagepaw. "I let two rogues enter our territory and catch prey and now I'm in for punishment."
Whoa, thought Larchkit. That is stupid. "Well then, here's a joke. What do you call a thieving crocodile?" Larchkit paused. "Crookodile!" Her joke is met with silence. That one is usually funny, thought Larchkit. "Okay, what about this one: why was the cat afraid of the tree?" She paused. "Because of it's bark!" Nothing. Sagepaw kept poking at his prey gloomily. Larchkit sighed. "Fine."
"I'll go."
Deciding to go to the prey pile to eat, she looked back at Sagepaw sadly. Looks like I failed. thought Larchkit sadly. Maybe I'm not the bubbly cat I thought I was. After successfully separating the mouse from underneath the rabbit in the pile, she started to move away. Larchkit had only a few seconds to realize the rabbit was about to fall on her.
And it did.
Soon, she was trapped beneath a dead rabbit, squirming and fidgeting. It was a truly hilarious sight. After getting help removing the rabbit, Larchkit saw Sagepaw's hidden smile as she passed him.
