Sometime after the Doctor left Sarah Jane-nine months to Sarah Jane's reckoning
Sarah Jane Smith sat on her sofa, reading a book. She was nine months pregnant and she really had nothing better to do. She hated the book she was reading, but at least it was something to do. Sarah dropped the hated book with a sudden jolt of pain in her stomach. She looked down, feeling wet. "Oh, no…"
With great difficulty, she got up to change her clothes, she should at least do that.
Sarah found that her car wouldn't run, so she went back inside to call her nearest relative.
No one answered on the other end and the pain was only getting worse. She dropped the phone back into the receiver and slowly sat on a kitchen chair. Minutes later, the pain started to subside, but she knew it's just come back in a few minutes. It was hard to believe how close her contractions were.
The journalist looked up in surprise as a sudden knock sounded at her kitchen door. Wondering just who it could possibly be, she forced herself to get up and looked out the window. She had hoped it would be one of her cousins, but there was a man in a greatcoat outside her door instead. She started at the man for a while. She saw that he had noticed her looking out the window.
"Sarah Jane," he called. "A friend of mine sent me to help you."
She frowned. "The Doctor?" she asked, opening the door a little. "If that's so, I don't know how that could be because he doesn't know."
"Oh, I know he doesn't know."
"Then how do you know?" Sarah demanded just before a new wave of pain suddenly hit.
The man looked her over. "Because I work with people who've been watching the Doctor's past companions and I did travel with him for a while," he told her. "Now, will you move out of the way so I can get you out of here? I don't think you really want to have your baby on your kitchen floor."
Sarah moved away from the door and allowed the man to come inside and carry her out of her home, still having no idea who he was.
Sarah Jane was sitting in a bed in a hospital that she had never even heard of. She'd been shocked at how close it was to her own home. She was now holding a new baby girl in her arms. The baby had dark hair sticking up from her scalp.
The man who'd brought her there came in and told her that if she saw the Doctor again, she was not to mention their meeting unless very specifically asked. She somehow doubted that would ever happen. He then explained to her that she really wasn't in a hospital, she was actually in a secret clinic owned by a place called Torchwood. She was also not to tell anyone of this place or Torchwood, not even if her daughter asked about her birth when she'd gotten older.
As the man was leaving the room, she asked, "who are you?"
He looked back at her. "Captain Jack Harkness." He then left the room closing the door behind him.
Sarah frowned; somehow she didn't think it was his real name. It soon didn't matter; her daughter was making small noises, drawing her attention away from her thoughts.
She shifted the baby somewhat, studying her daughter for any of her father's features. After a few moments, she did see at least one thing. The infant had her father's dark brown eyes. She suddenly thought of a name for her child. "Jacqueline Robin Smith."
