Eddie watched as her new husband talked with her new father in law right across the reception hall. Her and Jamie had finally gotten married, the matrimony ceremony had taken place at the Regan's Family Church, St. Angela's. Although as Jamie and Eddie were pretty low key, they decided to have the reception in a smaller venue with less guests the ceremony and only have close friends and family at the party.
The only thing was, both the groom and bride had people in which they slightly felt awkward and upset for not being there. For Jamie, this was his mother and his brother, Joe- he had felt sadness and a bit of anger for them not being there to celebrate with him his special day. One of the best days of his life, the day he fully commits his life to his lover, partner, scout, night-watchman, and wife, Eddie. Jamie was upset as his mother would not dance with him tonight and his brother would not have been his best man, not that Danny was not good enough, but that Joe had no chance or no fight to become his.
Instead, he thought about it and came to a little bit of peace to the situation, if he had not greatly loosed then he would not have greatly won more love. He might have not dealt with the pain of losing his loved ones but losing himself and although he was close to losing himself anyway, Eddie had saved him and showed him how to love himself and her. This he was able to celebrate.
As for Eddie, she was upset but also felt a little awkward and uncomfortable. Although Eddie was never the girl who had their wedding planned since age four with a bunch of binders and magazines. When she was a little girl, she didn't predict she be getting married without her father in attendance.
The comment her mother made when she first announced her engagement to Jamie had quite haunted her, she was the daughter of a convicted felon marrying the police commissioner's son. Although Jamie had told her numerous of times that her father's actions did not represent her, instead they showed how amazing and better she was; she still felt sad. She was sad not because her father Armin was not there himself, but a father in general. She still felt anger of the crimes he committed.
She looked around again the venue again and smile came across her face, her mother was happily content with a drink in her hand speaking to her old best friend. While her new grandfather, Henry was radiantly happy with a grin on his face speaking to many police offices boasting about his two grandkids, Jamie and Eddie of course. She saw Danny and Maria talking to Lt. Gormley, Detective Baker, and Deputy Commissioner Moore laughing their heads. Then she saw her two new nephews and her niece laughing up a storm at Sean's attempt of dancing and flossing on the dance floor.
As the music started to change she felt a hand touching her shoulder and someone who asked, "Can we have this dance, Mrs. Regan?". To Eddie's surprise when she turned around she saw Frank's hand extended out to her and behind Jamie holding her mother's hand waiting for her response to her new father in law's proposition. Eddie took his hand as he led her to the dance floor while Frank and her dance and Jamie and her mother danced to Bruce Springsteen's, Tougher than the Rest.
"You know I am extremely proud of you, right?" Frank asked as she lifted her eyebrows in confusion.
"I know, I may have been tougher on you in the beginning, but I am truly glad you married Jamie but even gladder than you have become my daughter. Thank you for being part of this family Eddie." Frank said as a tear fell down her face and they embraced in hug and for once, in her life Eddie felt not only the love of a father but fully understood the love of family.
