Envy snarled at the blonde boy, jealousy coursing through his veins.
"You have no right to be the son of a bastard like him! I hate him, but I should be the only son!" Envy screamed, the pain in his side getting worse. Ed frowned.
"I don't regard that bastard as my father. I don't even have the same last name as he does." Edward crossed his arms, glaring at Envy. The latter blinked, confused.
"What-you-you don't-" Envy pointed weakly at the human, blinking and gasping. Ed smirked.
"I'm guessing you hate him too?" Ed grinned, limping forward towards his older half-brother.
"I-I thought you were his favourite. I thought you loved him." Envy frowned, but his purple eyes were sad and empty, as if everything he had thought had been crushed. Maybe he wasn't so jealous of…well, anything. Maybe his name was wrong. Edward sighed, and suddenly found himself being hugged by the homunculus.
"I hate humans and I'm jealous of them, but, if you make me into one, I'll gladly be your big brother." Envy holds Ed close, tears welling up in his eyes. Edward was shocked. This was so unlike Envy. What was he plotting? Was he going to try and kill him and Alphonse? Ed didn't really think so, since Envy was crying into Ed's shoulder.
"I can accept that. I will make you human, but only after Al and I get our bodies back." Edward hugged Envy back, and the green-haired teen nodded.
"Find the limitless Philosopher's Stone, and you, me, and Al can be a family. That's all I want; a family. I've always been jealous of the people who have mothers, fathers, siblings, or just people who'll be there for them, no matter what. That's why I'm jealous. That's why my name is Envy. Please, break me from this life. I would gladly become a human if it meant getting the one thing I want." Envy burrowed his face into Edward's shoulder, smiling weakly. Edward squeezed him, and then pulled away.
"I had no idea. We can pretend you're human until we fix everything, is that OK?" Ed started walking, and smiled as Envy ran to catch up with him.
"Yes, otou-chan." Envy grinned; Edward copied him. The two held hands and helped each other back out into the open, where Alphonse was waiting.
What a surprise the youngest Elric got when he saw Envy and Ed.
"Eh?! Nii-San, what's going on?" Alphonse gasped, pointing a finger at the entwined hands. Envy grinned.
"We're gonna pretend I'm your older human brother. Ed's gonna get me some new clothes." Envy tapper the armour once, grinning. Al's shoulders relaxed.
"Well, I don't trust you. And don't think I'm going to be calling you 'nii-San'." Envy shrugged.
"That's fine by me."
