As the ice crept closer to the silent house, a white wolf stalked through the edge of the pines, crouching low so she blended with the harsh, winter night. She was clearly female, for her slender body had more feminine lines. She curved easily around the tree trunks, watching the house with her sharp, jewell blue eyes.

Meanwhile, another wolf paced around the once beautiful clearing. Frost nipped at her nose and her stormy grey fur bristled in the icy wind. She focused on her love, her life, Sam. But she couldn't remember a thing. Her brown eyes welled up, and mournfully, she threw back her head and howled.

The she-wolf slowed as she approached the back doorway. There was only one car on the drive, and it wasn't used anymore. A wicked glint appeared in her bright eyes. Quickly, she raked her claws down the walls, allowing the winter cold to slither in. Satisfied, she scampered back through the pines and waited.

A black wolf watched her with grave eyes. 'Grace,' he seemed to say. 'Stop it.'
Obediantly, she cut off mid-howl, and dipped her head in despair. Her pack leader didn't seem sympathetic. Instead, he seemed sad, too. He sighed, exhaling a gust of frosty breath. Paul then turned and disappeared through the trees from where he'd arrived. Grace buried her face in her paws and closed her eyes to rest.

The white wolf's ears flickered forward when a pained cry rang out, piercing the quiet night. She hesitated, wondering whether just to run for it now. Yet she stayed. Then, a storm grey wolf with striking yellow eyes crept gingerly out into the snow. She watched him carefully, debating whether to greet him or stay away. Sam aknowledged her, then a low snarl crept up his throat.
'Shelby!' he seemed to be growling. The white she-wolf, Shelby, raised her head to return his furious glare. She wasn't sorry. Not for anything.
Still snarling, Sam sat on his haunches and howled in fury. 'Quit that!' she snapped at him. Sam caught it, and stopped to glare at her again.
'You better hope I shift back soon,' he thought angrily.
Shelby turned to hide her grin. All she wanted was him, after all.
