Ghost Stories

It was no secret that Wayne loved the parks. He had been one of Walt's personal friends, and had worked on them since the beginning. But the true magic to him was at closing.

Everything had a different feel when the guests began to trickle out. The air was quieter, for one thing. The lighting seemed different, for without guests there are less shadows. The atmosphere in general seemed changed.

First of all, the silence was ghostly. There was only ever the occasional creak of a gate when cast members came out to do nightly maintenance. The rides were kept running, but most were without audio. The splash of a Splash Mountain Log, the metal grinding of the teacups. Very unusual, to some. But a strange sort of peacefulness, to others.

The spokes coming out of the hub became like ghost towns. Especially Frontierland, but that's just the era it's set in. It was as if the lack of shadows created them. An occasional character would mill about, but with the all of the problems recently, most were clever enough to stay within their attractions.

Many people don't realize it, but you don't have to be a medium to sense the presence of someone. The crowds have their own aura, the many mixed emotions of the guests. There are excited children, mystified by the magic of the place. There are tired adults, run down from chasing after their children. There are even cranky older siblings, sick of their younger sibling's whining. But when they leave the Magic Kingdom, the air goes still.

The bright lights going down Main Street never ceased to take Wayne's breath away. He sat, content, on a bench in the station. The view from there was stunning. Not as good as from the castle apartment, but definitely a close second. During the day, watching guests from the station was more entertaining than going through Escher's Keep a thousand times, but in the dusk he enjoyed just sitting here. He remembered all the times he had done this with Walt.

"Its kind of fun to do the impossible." He heard, examining the street.

"It sure is Walt. It sure is."
