I wrote this after I watched the short but highly disturbing-for-an-L-fan scene in Death Note director cuts, of Light at L's funeral. I do not like Kira, but I still have some respect for his seiyuu (Tamaki!!) so I wrote this "what-if" scenario to suggest that Light might not be acting on his own accord.

When the hands of the young boy clenched into clinging fists, he saw determination
When the hands of the young boy clenched into clinging fists, he saw determination. When his brown eyes gleamed with vehement desperation, he saw ruthlessness. When the rays of the dying sun shone into the darkened room, and when it inadvertently created a heaven-like aura around the boy's head, he saw blood and malice and death, and he soon realized that Yagami Light was the one destined to implement his grand design.
"I will reign over a new world as God!"
He smirked as he heard these words fall proudly out of Light's mouth. He, of course would have preferred him to put on a more dramatic scene, but nonetheless, he was impressed by his choice of volume and tone –proud and resolute, and tainted with hidden force and power. He carefully awaited Ryuk's cue, and when he finally heard the dry, crispy laughter and the gruff voice of the shinigami, his body flitted to the ground in the form of a million red dust particles. And as those not-so-innocent eyes gazed longingly out of the bedroom window, a gentle gust of wind blew the tiny particles into the depths Light's heart.
Red flashed in Light's eyes, and he felt the hatred within him grow.
Justice and evil united.
Hence, the birth of Kira.
