Title: Consider Your Smile Cracked

Rating: K+

Character/Challenge: Cho Chang, Drabble Request Thread

Word Count: 290

Authors note: For Static Lull. The request may have already been filled, but I was so inspired that I had to write one myself! I've never written a drabble before, so this is probably a bit how you going.

Cho Chang didn't smile anymore. Not since it happened. Not since Cedric died.

Try as she may, Marietta couldn't get it to show. She came close to begging Cho at times, desperate to see her friend happy, but she never did so Cho never smiled.

And then, a couple of months later, the teasing began. People began to pull tissues from their bags and dab their eyes with them when Cho walked past, trying her hardest to ignore them. She bottled it all up, held it strong inside, sometimes all lesson. She'd then quickly excuse herself and head for the bathroom at an almost run.

She'd curse the door close, let her books fall to the ground and slide down against the wall. The hollow filling inside her, begging to be filled, remained empty. There was nothing to replace the piece of her heart that had built quickly and broken down just as fast.

Cho would return to her dormitories, red-rimmed eyes which she no longer tried to hide from her kinder peers - why did they try and shrug off her pain as a cry for attention? - and walked up to her dorms where she found a single square of paper laying across her bed.

To Cho,

I wasn't sure how to make you feel less crappy so here's an IOU for 1 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 free hugs. Non-refundable.

From, Michael.

And for the first time in months, a feeling tugged the ends of her lips upwards into a grin at the sweetest thing she had ever read.
