Chapter 1
The Ice man
The streets were lined with lights that only come on around that time of day that everyone is at home or in bed. The sky was drowned in a sea of bright orange and red the sidewalk was cracked as it led to the alcove hidden away from the visage of those looking and directly in the path of those who are not. The door stood as a poor barrier to the elements that ravaged the city the letters read out Doctor Isaak Miroslav with the final name eaten away now unreadable the door slowly opened revealing a desk the room stunk of liquor with thin line of smoke from a fire that blazed in the garbage pail to which the large figure sat in front of his face carried a sign of thought crossed with hopelessness his face lit up by the flame on the end of his cigar "we are all born freemen" his voice carried a gruff tone. "We are not free, Dewitt" his eyes moving to the mirror hanging on the wall in front of him "I had a son, smart boy arrogant god knows where he is.
"I'm not here to talk about your son, I need help my baby girl" Dewitt answered putting the picture of a baby on the desk.
"Bring us the girl and wipe away the debt" he said tossing another picture to the fire "sound familiar" the question puzzled Dewitt "how can you be so sure she was a girl" he asked turning in the chair to the picture.
"Listen you my son" he started but was caught by the figure.
"Son, I thought you lost a girl?" he asked cocking his head to the side his eyes fixated on the facial expressions of the man on the opposite side of the desk.
"I, yeah a baby girl, my girl Anna" his face twisted in confusion.
"Fine, I guess but there is a cost that will have to be paid" the figure stood and made his way to the door "this price may be too much to bare" shutting the door behind him leaving Dewitt the shadow shaded room the fire died leaving a single photo of a man and his son standing by a model city the name Imprinted in the corner read Isaak Miroslav Lutece and Robert Lutece.
"Hey wait I'm going with you" Dewitt shouted opening the door to another door.
"Be sure Booker, if you go with me there are things you cannot un-see" the man spoke but remained hidden to which Booker opened the door the outside world the orange sunset replace with murky water the building now separated with Invisible walls "Dewitt that girl you can choose to save here" the man pointed toward the still image of a man with wrench in hand poised to strike the fallen girl "will you save her or will you leave her to fate.
"Save the girl Booker" Dewitt repeated to himself grabbing the wrench seemed to jumpstart the world as the men who gathered to scatter shouting Devil.
