I whimpered loudly as a family of four, with a little boy clinging onto the mother's shoulders and a little girl looking into all the other cages, walked past mine. The little girl took one look at me and turned towards her mother and buried her head in her mother's legs, screaming "Bad doggie!" and pointing at me. The mother shot me a nasty look before grabbing her daughter's hand and dragging her away from my cage as fast as possible. All I did was look at her.

I've been stuck in this cage for six, no, seven months at least by now. I've been locked up in crates and kennels my whole life, since I was a little puppy. I had a mean owner who took me home when I was six months old and stuck me in a crate inside. All I did while I was in there was grow and grow until my owner got fed up with buying new cages for me and sent me to a kennel. I was there for only four weeks before they sent me to this pet shop I'm at now because they couldn't stand walking me. I would always knock over whoever had the leash. I enjoyed running free, and I was not a tiny dog.

I'm taking up the biggest cage here. It's uncomfortable, but it's home. Everyone who looks at me finds me intimidating because of my size, I suppose. I just want someone who won't look at me like the others do.

I tucked my face behind my paws as the family left the pet shop with a much smaller, perky dog. At least they took the one that was here for the last few weeks. It was keeping everyone else awake because it would bark its yippy bark all night.

I was still looking at the door hopefully as it opened and a very large man walked in, having to duck his head under the door frame to get in. The owls screeched loudly as he brushed himself off and said, "Sorry 'bout that, jus comin' in for a look" after the shopkeeper had given him a bad look. I stood up and wagged my tail as I usually did when someone came in. This time, when this man had a look at me, he didn't cringe or look away, instead a smile broke out on his face and he walked over to my cage.

"'ey ther', buddy. How yer doing, ther'?" he said as he got down on his knees and pet my head through the bars of my cage. I barked happily. Finally, I might actually get adopted!

"Oh, tha's a boy, yer lookin' so uncomf'rtable in tha' lil' cage yer in. How's 'bout comin' home with meh? Ay, bud?" The man smiled, unlocking my cage. I jumped into his arms and licked his face in approval.

"Come on, boy, le's go home. Yer need a name firs', how's 'bout, er, yeh seem like a Fang, cause yeh look so fierce but yeh wouldn' hurt a fly, would yeh?" I wagged my tail and followed him to the counter. He seemed very nice and had a very lickable face.

I had a feeling this was going to be a great friendship.
