Limerence- The state of being completely infatuated with someone.
On a particularly dreary afternoon, two sharp knocks came to the door. The clouds were dark and it looked like it might rain. The air was humid and the air hot. My clothes stuck to me. With a sigh I got up from my bed I swung the door open, I was ready to give the person on the other side of the door a piece of my mind because the Louvre wouldn't get easier to rob as time passed. I scowled, hadn't I told Gabrielle not to bother me?
I opened the door and it wasn't Gabrielle. It wasn't Simon, Angus, or even Hamish. Standing on the other side of the door was none other than W.W. Hale the Fifth. It was Hale.
I hadn't seen him since the transfer of the Hale Industries. He couldn't steal Van Gogh's Starry Night on a whim. He couldn't case the Martha Ruby. He couldn't even rob the jewels which were at the Buckingham Palace. Of course it wasn't lack of skill which stopped him from carrying out all these cons. Hale was perfectly capable of doing all this …it was just the matter of not having the time to do it. After all, he was in charge of one of the largest industries in the world. He had his family business to tend to and I had mine. That's not what bothered me though. What bothered me was that I didn't get to see his smile as often. I didn't get to hear him crack a joke. He couldn't just fly off with me for breakfast in Paris or lunch in Tokyo. I stole Hale…and needless to say I wasn't happy to return him. So I suppose it was understandable that I was at a loss of words when I saw him standing there.
"Hey" He said.
"Hey." I replied curtly.
After what seemed like hours of silence but it was in actuality only 45 seconds. I spoke up.
"To what do I owe the pleasure of seeing you The Fifth?" Hale frowned. Clearly he didn't like my formal address.
"Will you come with me?" Of course, you idiot. I've died everyday I've been without you. We need you back. The heists are harder to pull off without a brilliant inside guy like you. I need you Hale. I missed you Hale. Obviously, I didn't say any of that. Quite the opposite, I crossed my arms across my chest and said,
"No. No I will not come with you"
Hale looked taken aback. Did he think he could run off and come back and expect me to be the same? You expected that out of him. I was being a hypocrite and I knew that, but frankly I didn't care. I wanted him to know how much it had hurt without him.
"Kat, plea-"
"Katrina."
"What?" He said bewildered.
"Only, my friends call me Kat, and to everyone else I'm Katrina." Hale took a step closer to me.
"Am I not a friend anymore Kat?" He put his lips close to my ear and whispered.
"Am I a stranger Kat?" His hands travelled up my arms and came to rest on my shoulders. His eyes bore into mine.
"Tell me you don't know me Kat. Say you don't remember this" But I couldn't say that. Because I did remember him. I knew him better than myself. He came closer until our lips were only millimeters apart.
"Say you don't remember me. Say you don't remember this" I closed the distance between us, feeling his soft lips move against mine, savoring the moment. After what seemed like an eternity, I pulled away.
"I remember" I said barely a whisper. And it was all the permission Hale needed before he crushed his lips against mine.
