A normal day
The Kindred—a mysterious, deadly force rivaled only by the inhabitants of the Shadow Isles. Sightings of them have been few and far apart, for they have hunted down almost everyone who has seen them. Drunken Demacians by the fire, however, speak of a bow-wielding lamb, a canine mask on its face, and a shadowy wolf seemingly made entirely out of smoke, wearing a lamb's mask. As mysterious and surreal they may seem, they are capable of feelings, very much so. They are so capable of feeling, in fact, that they have run out of jokes and stories to tell each other because of the eternity they have spent together…
"Lamb, tell me a story." Wolf demanded. Lamb gently caressed Wolf's bone-white mask. "Okay. Now listen closely: There was once a man-"
"Yes, I know, I KNOW! He split himself in half so he would always have a friend! I'm positive you've told me this one a million times already." Yelled Wolf, calming down at the end of his sentence. Lamb sighed, "I know, Wolf, I know… but I'm not exactly a traveling bard, I can't pick up stories from anyo-…" Lamb facepalmed. "How… How did I miss that? I could've just picked up any soul's life story…" Wolf laughed, although it was more like a growl. "Yes, you've missed it for the past… three thousand years?"
"Why didn't you remind me!?" Lamb shouted, on the verge of breaking into tears. "I figured it would be funny to see the expression on your face when you finally found out… You should really find a mirror right now." Wolf would have smirked if he could. Lamb lowered her head. "Wolf?"
"Yeah?"
"I'm wearing my mask."
"So?"
"You can't see my face."
"…Right."
"So how are you seeing my facial expression?"
"I dunno," Wolf rolled his eyes and said sarcastically, "Maybe it's because of my glow-in-the-dark eyes? Or because of my oh-so-mystical bond with you?"
"Wolf?"
"Yeah?"
"Stop being a sassy ass or I'll be forced to shoot you."
Wolf sighed. "Fine, fine… you always take all the fun out of our banter." Lamb, slightly agitated, retorted, "No, I do not! You're the one who's supposed to be all vicious and terrifying, not me."
"Fine, fine… My turn to tell a story!" Wolf yelled. "I have a bad feeling about this…" Wolf's rough voice deepened.
"Tell me, little Lamb, whi-"
"…-ch things are ours to take?" Wolf's eyes widened in mock surprise. "How did you know? I only say this one every few hundred years! There should be no way you can remember that." Lamb raised her bow, trembling. "Wolf?"
"Yeah?"
"You've got ten seconds to run."
Screaming, Wolf took off, only to find himself barricaded in by Lamb's Respite. "Nine seconds… Aren't you running?" Lamb asked, tilting her head. "If you won't run, then you know what comes next…"
"No! Please! I'll do anything! Nooooo!" Wolf screamed in terror as Lamb pounced…
An hour later, Wolf was still rolling on the floor laughing, as Lamb tickled him on the stomach. Night had fallen, but neither had noticed. Finally, Lamb had enough and stopped, leaving her companion wheezing on the grassy earth.
A while later, Wolf caught his breath, and laid down on the grass next to Lamb.
"Wolf?"
"Yeah?"
"Have you ever wondered why we were created?"
Wolf smiled sadly. "I have, little Lamb, I have… But I have not chased down the answer."
Under the vast, starry sky laid the two eternal companions, sleeping silently next to each other. Another day ended for the Eternal Hunters.
A/N: So… how was it? I would 'preciate it if you gave feedback via reviews. If not… eh.
