Hey fellow fic'ers! This is my first published story, and while I'm not sure it's as good as the stories I see here, I hope it turns out and that you enjoy! It's a little short (as oneshots tend to be), but it's not supposed to be in a very large time frame. Thank you!

Disclaimer: Under the advice of others, I don't own Pirates Of The Caribbean.

I Could Have Shot Her

"Just wait, Captain Sparrow. Give it one hour, maybe two, and you will see white sails on that horizon."

Bewildered, shaking hands reached for the pistol to my lower. Aimed it at the back of her oblivious mind with no particular accuracy. Consequence. I could feel expressions developing that only my insanity could have explained. My rage. My instinct.

How could she? Does she know what she has done?

It was mine. My ship, my chances, and now my last resort at bloody survival. My rum. My salvaged comfort. Destroyed. Gone up into smoke for own selfish needs. What right or reason did she have to take what was mine?

Pirate.

No… Not one with any authenticity, at least.

More a respectable lady of… breeding. Though she doesn't look like it at the moment, the polished governor's daughter. Fine belle of another Red Coat… even if her heart plainly doesn't belong to him. Young. Almost innocent of all charges. Don't do anything stupid.

My single shot will not be wasted on a woman.

Weapon briskly lowered and awkwardly replaced to my person in frustration. For lack of better action, stormed further off into my captivity with as much dignity as one could muster.

I could have shot her.

"Must have been terrible for you to have been trapped here, Jack. Must've been terrible for you- WELL, IT BLOODY IS, NOW!"

Sand flying with my jumps. Trinkets flaring.

I gazed up from my shadeless surroundings. Stopped in my never-ending tracks to meet with the promised white sails. Cost me. Never thought they'd come.

I looked back at the source of my fury. My grief. My gratitude.

Her success.

And to think I could have shot her.

"There'll be no living with her after this."
