Prologue

Her heart hammered against her chest, she just had to get away that was all she had been able to think about. Things had changed so suddenly, one moment she had been surrounded by the smiles and affection of her family and in the next, they were gone. Blood coated the white walls, dying them a deathly shade of red. It would haunt her forever. She would never be able to get that grizzly image from her mind. Why had it come to this? No-one could have seen this coming.

She had only managed to escape by the skin of her teeth, because he had saved her by standing in their way, buying her time to get away. It had been at the cost of his own life. This day was meant to be a happy one. They had gathered to celebrate the joyous news of the new life that was every growing within her. Now that new life was all she had left, the only piece of her former life that she would fight tooth and nail to protect if it came to that. No-one would know about the massacre. All evidence of the blood bath was covered up and destroyed by the fire. Her home had been set alight and that is all that anyone would remember. The fire that consumed her family, that there had been no survivors. She had survived, the only witness to truth. Justice would come in time.

For now she would need to lay low, create a new identify for herself and her unborn child. It wouldn't be an easy task, forever living a lie but this was her only way forward as she knew that she couldn't trust the people she once had surrounded herself with. They could have been the ones who set the balls rolling in one way or another. She had to cast aside that life and take up a new mantle. She would be Olivia Hart from this moment on wards, a sad smile graced her lips for but a moment as she stood there, looking down upon the quaint, little town that she would call home, for now at least. Olivia knew that she could never stay in one place for too long, it wasn't safe. She would be forever looking over her shoulder.

Life would never be the same again.
