They always said monsters don't exist. Most people see them as campy B movie flicks on a low budget. A few however know the truth.
Our perfect government has kept secrets hidden. They know the sight of powerful creatures birthed from unspeakable horrors would cause mass panic. One decisive act in a brutal war of 1945 gave life to these strange beasts.
During a massive conflict the United States managed to gain the upper hand against Japan. Many screams of agony can be head as weapons fired across the battlefield. The general was looking for a way to end it once and for all. "This has gone on long enough!" He shouted while slamming his fist. "Can they not see the problem here?" A pilot in training named Steve walked into the room. "Here's your coffee sir!"
He poured into the cup and handed it to the general. "Thank you private!" Steve looked outside to see nothing but carnage. "War never changes does it?" He asked. "Over the last few days our soldiers have been fighting with unrelenting courage." The general stated.
"We're nearly at the tipping point." Steve replied. The general narrowed his eyebrows fiercely. "Nearly isn't good enough!"
Steve paused for a minute in confusion. "What do you mean by that?" The general pushed a red button under his desk to reveal a mysterious room unknown to many. "Don't tell a soul for what you're about to see." He demanded. Steve was taken back at first but nodded in agreement.
They walked into a facility to see expert scientist across the globe at work.
"What the hell is all of this for?" Steve asked. His question was answered when a large device appeared in front of him. Steve found it quite difficult to restrain from laugher. Trying to fight a battle with an oversized bomb wasn't a very practical idea in his eyes. "Something funny here Martin?" The general snapped. "No sir!" Steve quickly responded. "Good now pay attention!"
Steve quickly signed and took a deep breath. He didn't want to lose his position over a poorly timed joke. "What you see before you is the ultimate trump card in history!" The general stated. Steve raised an eyebrow as it certainly peaked his interest.
"A state of the art weapon infused with pure nuclear energy!" Steve's eyes widened in shock. "With all do respect sir we can't just bomb everyone to win!"
The general let out a quick chuckle in response. "The war isn't going to win itself." Steve understandably wasn't quite on board with this. He knows that sacrifices have to be made but never on such a large scale. "Isn't there any kind of alternative?" He asked hoping for the best. "Causalities are an unfortunate part of war." The general stated as one of the scientist ran into room. "We're ready to fire!" He shouted.
Multiple thoughts rushed through Steve's head at once. What he feared most is an outcome that can lead to disaster. The general however didn't seem to care as he moved his finger to the button and pushed it.
The entire room suddenly glowed red as the countdown began. "Japan is about to receive a little wake up call!" He stated with a grin.
Back on the battlefield our two forces continued their intense war. Despite having uneven odds neither side was able to claim victory. One solider looked up in the sky and saw a plane flying above "Hey guys look up there!" He shouted. Everyone paused to bare witness as the plane flew right past their location at high speed. Steve didn't think for a moment this would go according to plan. "Where is it flying to?" He asked.
The nuke was dropped around the area but instead of aiming for the Japanese soldiers down below it's target was a populated city. A light engulfed the entire sky instantly vaporizing anyone there. Large puffs of smoke began to settle on the now decimated town.
Every building was either completely destroyed or barely standing along with hundreds of corpses scattered throughout.
Later that day it was decided the war would finally end. A document was signed between the rival countries to ensure that something like this could never happen again. Soldiers from both sides began to pack up and return home.
The general signed as he wiped sweat off his face. "That wasn't an easy choice to make." He stated.
"But for the sake of everyone and our future it had to be done!" Everyone agreed except for Steve. "Was this really the only way?" He thought to himself. The general placed a hand on his shoulder. "You're welcomed to leave if that's what you desire."
Steve didn't reply as he removed his badge and walked off. "At least the worst of it has passed."
Unfortunately that wasn't the case as deep below the ocean floor the dorsal plates of a large marine reptile glowed a white color. The creature awoke with red murderous eyes as it wasted no time to seek more radiation.
