The Squad was busy fighting their third fire of the night, a 2-alarm blaze in an Amsterdam neighborhood. It was well after 2 in the morning before the fire was finally under control and the units could start clearing the scene. The Squad slowly made their way back towards the rig.
"I don't know about you all, but I'm beat." Jimmy said
"Yeah. My gear feels like it weighs a hundred pounds." Taylor said as she wiped some soot off of her face.
"I just want to take a shower and go to bed." Lombardo added
"Yeah and salvage what's left of a night's sleep." Taylor replied
"That ain't gonna happen." DK said
"I'm gonna do my best to make my head hit my pillow." Walsh said as he stopped in front of a rig.
Without hesitation he climbed up into the cab of the truck, but the rest of the Squad looked at him.
"What you don't wanna go home yet?" Walsh asked
Taylor looked at everyone else.
"Billy, that's not our truck." She said dryly
"Yeah it is." Walsh replied
Taylor raised an eyebrow. Lt. Johnson walked over.
"What are you doing?" He asked
"Trying to figure out when Walsh fell and hit his head." DK cracked as everyone else laughed.
"Come on, let's get in the truck and go back to the house." Lt. Johnson said as he walked towards the officer's door.
"Lieu, that's not our rig." Jimmy said as Lt. Johnson started to step up into it
Walsh sat in the driver's seat and looked around.
"This isn't our rig!" Walsh cried out as the rest of the Squad laughed.
Walsh and Lieutenant Johnson quickly returned to the ground and looked at the door.
"Well that it isn't." Lt. Johnson laughed
"I think that the guys 65 might want their rig back." Taylor said pointing to the group of firefighters looking at them.
"You guys need a map?" The Chauffer called out as the others laughed
"Maybe someone else should drive home since Billy seems a little lost as to where he parked the rig." Lombardo replied
Walsh elbowed Lombardo. "It's been a long day."
"Yeah and all you had to do was drive us here." DK cracked
The ride home was almost silent. Taylor stared around the cab to see Lombardo resting his head on the window he was sitting beside. DK nodded off to sleep, as did Jimmy. Lt. Johnson looked back at his Squad and then turned around.
"It's been a long night." He said to Walsh
"That it has." Walsh replied as the radio buzzed to life again.
"Squad 5-5, Ladder 100 respond for alarm bells sounding 1082 Morningside Drive." It called
"Great." Taylor said sarcastically as she nudged her sleeping coworkers. "We got another call."
"Hopefully it's a false trip." Lombardo said
"Yeah, I'm beginning to feel like we'll never see our bunks again." DK whined
Lt. Johnson just sat in the front seat and smiled.
"Think you'll be able to find our rig this time?" He laughed
"Very funny." Walsh replied as he guided the rig towards its destination.
