It was one of those nights. A night for throwing tantrums and stealing cookies. A night for watching the rain pour down and lightning lace the skies, and listening to thunder as it rumbled like a hungry beast.
Lucy loved these nights. Thunder wasn't scary, nothing that comes from the skies could ever be scary to her. Her mother had explained to her once when she was very young that rain and snow and thunder and lightning all came from the heavens, the heavens where the Spirits lived. And Lucy loved the Spirits, so she loved everything that came from the heavens.
Things weren't so clean cut anymore, Lucy wasn't a child anymore, but she still loved the Spirits with the same child-like innocence and purity as back then. That was something that would never change.
It was also a night for reminiscing. For remembering all the good things in her life, along with the bad and everything in between. It was a night for thinking about everything that made her happy, or sad or that simply caught her attention in one way or another.
It was a night for reminding herself that no matter how many years passed, how much she changed, she was still and always would be Lucy, the daughter of Layla and Jude, a member of Fairy Tail, a Celestial Wizard. More titles have been added over the years and all those identified who she's been and who she's become.
S-Class wizard. Strongest Celestial Wizard in recent and not so recent history, those were titles that didn't define her as a person, only as a magic user.
Daughter, friend, wife, mother. Those said everything there was to say about Lucy Heartfilia, about Lucy Dragneel, wife of Natsu, mother of Nashi.
Of all the things she's done and achieved in her life, Lucy held those two the most dear. Being an S-Class wizard or being the best there is in her field of expertise was certainly something to be proud of. But nothing filled her with more pride than knowing that she was loved by a good man, a man she loved desperately and that together they created the biggest miracle known to mankind. A new life. A life that would grow and thrive, a life that would one day walk with her head held high, because she was a wizard, because she was smart, and strong and beautiful, because she was a member of Fairy Tail. But most of all because she was the daughter or Natsu and Lucy.
The little pink bundle currently sleep against her chest would always be filled with pride when she thought about her parents. This Lucy swore to herself as she looked at the rain pouring down on Magnolia.
With a quiet sigh, she looked away from the window and towards the other side of the small hospital room. Natsu was fast asleep on a small, uncomfortable chair. He hadn't left her side since her contractions started. He'd been there every step of the way, holding her hand, kissing her hair, encouraging her, crying with her when Porlyusica laid the small, squirming proof of their love in Lucy's shaking arms.
This was their reward. After everything they'd been through, Nashi was their biggest gift and the best reward life could have given them.
Cradling her peacefully sleeping daughter to her chest, Lucy smiled.
It truly was a night for miracles.
AN: Just a little something inspired by a stormy night. I hope you all like it.
