"Tread carefully Sandra, the ground is icy." Gerry said as she stepped out of their front door and took Gerry's hand.

"I love the ice and frost." Sandra replied.

"Not when you're walking somewhere! Death trap!"

"Watch where you're stepping then."

"Have I ever told you how gorgeous you look in that dress?"

"Yes but keep the compliments flowing." Sandra said as she laughed.

"Remind me why we decided to walk?!" Gerry asked only a couple of minutes later.

"So that we can both have a drink." She replied simply.

"We could've done that if we'd gotten a taxi"

"We only live five minutes from the hall so what's the point?"

"It's cold!"

"Stop moaning."

They arrived at the hall that was hosting the charity gala.

"I'll never understand why people come to these events in limousines!" Sandra commented as one pulled up.

"It's probably Strickland with that new girlfriend of his that he shows off like a trophy."

"Probably but I'd rather not hang around to find out!"

"Okay, I'll go and get the drinks in while you go and find that lot." Gerry said referring to Steve and Dan.

"These seats are rubbish!" Sandra moaned to Dan and Steve.

"If you were going to force us to come then we decided we'd hide at the back." Steve explained as Gerry returned putting first a glass of white and a glass of red wine down before leaving and returning with two more glasses of red wine. Steve looked up at Gerry questioningly as if Gerry had gone mad.

"They had no beer so you're stuck with red wine."

"Fine."

"Is Strickland really up for an award?!" Dan finally spoke as he looked up from the leaflet that had been on the table.

"Yeah, no idea what for though!" Sandra replied.

"All he does is sit at his desk and then come down to our office to shout at us!" Steve laughed.

"If you could get an award for shouting then Sandra would have a house full of trophies." Gerry laughed and surprisingly Sandra did too.

"And they'd be well deserved for putting up with you three!"

It was probably a good idea that they'd sat at the back because they never stopped talking and laughing. Instead of listening to whatever was going on they spent their time drinking and chatting.
