Time for a Gilligan's Island one-shot! It just consists of a sweet moment between Gilligan and Mary Ann. Enjoy!
Another rescue attempt had gone wrong. Four years and they still were on the island. The Castaways were clustered around the table, listening to the radio.
"In further news, the island found is said to be deserted and no people were found. All investigations have been called off." the announcer said. The Castaways were silent as the Professor turned off the radio.
"Well," he said. "I guess we just have to wait until another chance arrives." The silence was tense as everyone nodded in sad agreement. Suddenly, Mary Ann stood up and bolted into the jungle, clearly unhappy. Gilligan stood up.
"I'll find her." he said, reassuring the others who were slightly bewildered. The first mate followed Mary Ann into the jungle and found her sitting on a log, crying.
"Mary Ann?" he asked. She nodded in response, barely looking up.
"Do you want some company?" he asked. She hesitated for a moment, but nodded. Gilligan sat down next to her and, unsure about what to do, he put his hand on her shoulder.
"What's wrong? Come on, you can tell me. I'm sorry the rescue got messed up. I didn't mean to break the transmitter." he appologized.
Mary Ann stopped sniffling and almost smiled.
"Oh, Gilligan. That wasn't really the problem. Well, that was part of it. It's just that every time we try to escape the island, something goes wrong. I'm beginning to think we'll never get rescued. And if we don't, it means I'll never go home." Mary Ann cried, wiping her eyes with her shirt sleeve. Gilligan thought for a moment. He had no idea how to make her feel better.
"Just think of it differently. You see, just assume that we will get rescued some day and don't forget that. Try not to remember the chances of us not going home." he commented. Mary Ann looked at him.
"You know, you're right. I just miss home I guess. Its hard being without my family. And all my friends from home probably think I'm dead." she said, thinking about Kansas.
"I know, Mary Ann. I miss home, too. And what you said about family, well, I consider you all to be my family. We all care about each other and we work together to live on this island." Gilligan replied, completely serious for once in his life. Mary Ann smiled.
"Thank you, Gilligan. We are family. You know, it's a sure good thing you're around at times like this. I was pretty upset. You're always so optimistic. I have no idea how you do it, but I'm greatful." she replied.
Author's note: I know, short. But sweet!
Until next time,
Annette :)
