Machinations of Fate
When everything is gambled
on the turn of a coin,
is fate left to pure chance,
or is there room to manipulate the toss?
Within relentless eternity, could the gambler,
focused in his immortality, discover
the means to turn the wrist and turn the coin
into a sword, whose edge may cut the universal cloth?
And might the gambler, thus so focused,
throw the coin too hard?
It strikes the floor and flies up
spinning again in the air
like the reflection of a thousand die.
