Desperately I grabbed Mr. Todd's hands and tried to usher him away from the face of his dead wife. He didn't look at me, he just stared down crushed at the decaying body. I caressed his large hands as I dragged him away.
"You lied to me." Mr. Todd cried.
"No not lied at all. No I never lied. Said she took a poison she did, never said that she died. Poor thing she lived, but it left her weak in the head all she did for months was just lie there in bed. Should have been in hospital, wound up in bedlam instead poor thing, better you should think she was dead. Yes I lied cause I love you. I'd be twice the wife she was I love you. Why can't you like me?"
"I killed her. What have I done?"
"Mr. Todd, what's dead is dead! I love you! She was crazy she wouldn't have satisfied you. She wasn't your Lucy. She was on medicines of all sorts should have been in an asylum!"
"Don't talk about Lucy like that you self imposed wrench!" Sweeney stood and glared at me, hints of red sparkling in his brown eyes.
"Please Mr. T we could get married! By the sea Mr. Todd!" I tried to bring him out of his trance, back to me. Everything had been perfect. He had killed the judge, the deed he had wanted to fulfill ever since he had come home and now I had made an error. Somehow the old bag had gotten into the shop and angered Sweeney into killing her as well.
"Mrs. Lovett, you're a bloody wonder, eminently practical and yet appropriate as always. As you've said repeatedly there's little point in dwelling on the past. Come here my love."
"Do you mean it?" I asked joyously. "Everything I did I swear was only for the best!" I backed away from him cautiously as he approached me.
"I love you." He smiled.
"And I you!" I walked into him.
"Let's dance, Mrs. Lovett."
"Yes Mr. Todd."
We swirled around the room over the bodies, around the hot oven and near the grate. He led me over to the heat of the oven, "Mrs. Lovett you are beautiful. And in this light…" I smiled and leaned into him.
"The history of the world my pet!"
"Oh Mr. Todd, oh Mr. Todd leave it to me." I struggled to make the words come out,
"Is learn forgiveness and try to forget!"
"By the sea Mr. Todd we'll be comfy, cozy. By the sea Mr. Todd where's there's no one noisy!"
"Life is for the alive, my dear, so let's keep living it. Really living it!" He screeched as we swayed in the furnace light.
Then he picked me up and threw me in. I screamed as loud as possible. He ad said he loved me! I closed my eyes as the pain took over, my screams were echoing around me.
"Nothing's going to harm you… not while I'm around." Toby distantly sang as I took my last breath.
