Dislcaimer: I do not own 'The Outsiders', but I do own the plot.

A/N: Coming to me in the shower, this story has a lot of mature themes in it, so if they bother you, please do not read it. I'd rather not make you depressed lol!

July 14th, 1967

He should never have been there in the first place. Sodapop Curtis should not have to be here, trudging through the Vietnamese countryside with an M14 rifle in his hands, a helmet atop his head. He should be at home in Tulsa, Oklahoma with his brothers Ponyboy and Darrel Curtis; he should be at home with his best friend, Steve Randle, and his other friend Two-Bit Mathews. The Vietnamese sun beats down upon Sodapop's head, making sweat roll down his forehead and into his chocolate brown eyes. Shifting his packs, he lets out a cough and shifts his gun once more. The heat is unbearable, and Sodapop soon finds it hard to breathe in his combats; just as he is about to complain, he is clapped on the shoulder and silenced.

He follows his friend as they creep towards a small village, and as Sodapop notices the signal to attack, he realizes that there is someting wrong; there are no men or soldiers to be seen. As they make their way into the village, he notices that his fellow soldiers are taking the screaming women and throwing them into huts, and one of his buddies brings Sodapop towards one of those said huts. He pushes him in and Sodapop nearly becomes sick as he watches a man climb on top of a young Vietnamese woman, who is screaming at him and crying; He grabs his fellow soldier's shoulder and throws him back, fury evident in his face. His friend laughs, looking at the soldier on the dirt ground.

"Seems like Curtis wants her for himself. C'mon, let's regroup." The soldier on the ground grumbles but leaves wth Sodapop's friend. Sodapop turns around and his eyes fall upon the cowering girl, who couldn't be older than himself. He seats himself on the edge of the makeshift bed and brushes her hair back from her face, his eyes locking with hers.

"Hi..." He smiles softly at her, and her crying stops suddenly. She looks up at him with big brown eyes, reminding him suddenly of Johnny Cade, a friend of his that had died two years prior, and a sharp pain shoots through Sodapop's heart. The woman begins speaking quickly, and low, and Sodapop shakes his head, "I can't speak your language, I'm sorry." The girl taps her chest, nodding her head, and speaks.

"An." She taps Sodapop's chest and he smirks.

"My name is Sodapop." An nods her head, and Sodapop stands up, walking towards the door; as he turns back, he smiles as the girl bites her lip.

"C?m on, Sodapop..." Sodapop flashes her his sunny smile and exits the hut, suddenly feeling better than he had in months.
