Every day I walked up and down the beach in La Push. And every day I noticed two similar sets of footprints. One was bigger than the other and I know who each set of footprints belonged to. Me and my Jacob.

Thunder and lightning flashed across the sky and frightened me. I curled down deeper into strong arms and huddled myself tighter against a warm, bare chest.

That always made me feel better whenever times were rough.

But I decided to be brave and looked back at where I had already been and saw sadly that only one singal set of footprints was visible against the sand. Even though real footprints wash away with the beach waves I felt saddened by this and started to cry.

Because it really was very sad.

I asked Jacob

"Why would you leave me when I needed you the most?"

It hurt my feelings and was very difficult for me to understand.

We loved each other desperately but there was only one set of footprints. It didn't make since.

Jacob's voice softly reached my ears and said

"Sweetie I will never ever leave you. No matter how tough and hopeless life gets. I will stay with you. Always."

"Jake? The feet?"

He picked my body up in his arms and held his arms above his head so I was up in the air looking down at him.

Jacob was smiling.

" Whenever you felt alone and saw only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you." He brought me back down and nuzzled his face in my neck kissing my skin and hair before talking again, voice soft so I heard him.

"Whenever you feel alone, look at the stars. The great wolves of the past will always be there to guide you. And so will I."

Jacob Black kissed me.

And I trusted that what he had told me was true.
